Last week in this very column I wrote about the state of Impact Wrestling and how good their shows have been lately. I even made mention that their upcoming television show on Tuesday night on POP TV was going to be shown live and that their live shows are never to be missed as they always try to jump into a major storyline or have a surprise title change to make instant news. If you took me up on my recommendation of watching Tuesday night, I only have 2 words to say to you and you probably already know what they are: I’m sorry.
For those of you outside of the United States that get Impact Wrestling on a couple of days delay, the live Impact Wrestling show didn’t come on completely until 10:50 P.M. Eastern time. For nearly 2 hours we were subject to only 3 promos promoting Impact Wrestling, That 70’s Show and Celebrity Name Game. It became a running joke all night long on social media that the best part of Impact was when Donna told Eric she wasn’t wearing a bra, or Donna saying she has the biggest hands in the world, or that the Celebrity Name Game not only has celebrities, but they also have their own furniture. Yes, we got bits and pieces of the live show, but only quarterly and at about 30 seconds per shot. What made Impact Wrestling look even worse was that at the beginning they were tweeting out the results of the live show, making it seem like they had no clue that their television show was going through technical difficulties. Hell, it took them and POP TV until 10:10 Eastern time to put up a scroll that they were going through difficulties.
And this is just another black cloud hanging over the head of Impact Wrestling and why I can’t trust them anymore. Whether it’s bouncing from second-tier network to third-tier network, financial woes or giving guys that are no longer deserving of big paychecks, big paychecks, it seems that they never keep their eye on the ball at all times. The sheer talent of the people they released in order to bring in people at bigger contracts and not as talented is staggering. You know that New Japan main event a couple of days ago between Naito and Okada? They both became known to the U.S. audience as members of Impact Wrestling. AJ Styles, in what is arguably the hottest feud in pro wrestling in years with John Cena, was low-balled in contract talks when thinking about re-signing with Impact Wrestling. Kazarian, Christopher Daniels, Bobby Roode, Austin Aries, and Eric Young were also just discarded by Impact Wrestling after achieving major success there and continue to achieve success elsewhere. I should have been done with them when they released my all time favorite wrestler, Traci Brooks, but I continued to watch anyway.
If you put together every wrestling promotion’s roster from around the world, Impact Wrestling’s could very well be at the top or in the top 5 for sure. However, with this continued mismanagement by Dixie Carter and the higher-ups, it really starts to make me wonder if the talent on Impact Wrestling and the wrestling world as a whole would be better off without Impact Wrestling.
