Welcome back. I have been off for a couple of weeks due to laptop hassle, but I am back. And things seem to be all over the place in the TNA ranks at the moment.
I know I have missed a bit over two weeks but I was pretty shocked after watching last week’s Impact. Did I really see the World Title change hands!! More about that a little later.
The main thing to notice recently is the roster still settling into their new roles. The Cowboy James Storm is now very comfortable in his new role as a heel, and he really seems to enjoy the heat he gets off the crowd .Nostalgia was on the cards in last week’s episode, as it appeared Beer Money were on the verge of making a comeback in a gauntlet match for the number one contender to the heavyweight champ.
With the 10 guys that were in this match the most noticeable thing was the immediate connection between Storm and Roode. It was a great thing to see as their tag team was one of the best there was during their time together, we even came close to their catchphrase at one point but just as the fans were starting to chant “beeeeeer – monnnnney” they stopped. A shame but ultimate do we want the heel side of the tem together?
For me they are a lot more useful as single competitors, and their characters are now far too big to be kept as a pair, at least for now anyway. On the other side of the spectrum you have the all new Bully Ray. The Face version of bully really gets the fans revved up for his matches. Don’t get me wrong though. I think he is the master of manipulation and can pull the fans into anything he is involved with, but he really holds the show together.
There were some really talented guys in the gauntlet match and I won’t go into all the details but ultimately EY won, and with a huge pop from the crown wanted his title match on the night, not at Sacrifice. We will get to that though.
The other breakthrough starts at the mo for me are EC3 and Rockstar Spud. I have mentioned before how I like their evolution into the company but the whole double act that has come out of the connection they seem to have is extremely entertaining.
Spud has evolved his character so much since he entered the British Boot camp it is hard to remember how he used to act up. He is such an ingrained character now he is part of the glue that keeps the show together between segments. Part of this is the new “Hunt For Willow” segments that have been played.
As much as I would like more wrestling on Impact and a lot less talking these vignettes have me in stitches. The chemistry between EC3 and Spud really pull it together and the comedy between them, EC3 being the straight guy and Spud being the humour, makes for some very good watching. The only thing letting these pieces down is Jeff Hardy’s Willow character.I still can’t say I like this direction hardy has taken, but who knows, the end goal may be well worth the wait.
Ok, back to Eric Young. He wanted his Championship match on the Impact show and it seemed like a good idea, the fans really like EY and he has been sitting in the background for fart to long. He gets the fans pumped up on every one of his matches and he is a true entertainer. If you didn’t see the impact last week then it would be a fairly good one to get hold of if you can as after a very good match with a lot of good high spots. Without going into vast details of the match we all know the major outcome – Eric Young is our new TNA Heavyweight Champion.
The one thing I noticed on social media was the hatred outpour to TNA after this match. Everyone was so shocked that Eric was given the title shot that they did nothing but complain about the way it was done. But if you watch the match and see the look on the fans faces………
That is why the guys in TNA did what they did. Every single person in the audience was in absolute shock and awe over the win. This is what makes wrestling worth watching, not knowing how things are going to play out. More of this type of match is needed. Yes a lot of the time we all know the outcome before it happens but how good is it when you are left in complete shock. That really made my viewing of last week’s TNA one of the best I have seen, and I am really looking forward to seeing how they carry on from here.
