I let off a bit of steam last week concerning TNA, but after seeing Impact from 24th April I had a smile put back on my face. I personally am now starting to like the way Magnus is being put over now. Gone is the guy that had to have help to win and now her is someone hungry to defeat all that take him on, using any means necessary. This is something long overdue for him, He is a huge talent in the ring and just needs to be aloud to show his raw talent.
Abyss seems to have finally found is place too, the new mask and outfit were a bit much at first , and with him being a lap-dog to Magnus. but now he has been given the time to find himself again. I liked the whole Joseph Park story line but think it ran a little to long, probably the reason it seemed to end so quickly.
Still I wait though for another shock win from the company, I don’t think they will ever get the shock that happened with Eric Young winning the Heavyweight Title , but something needs to be worked on. Some of the ideas the company have worked on make a lot of sense to me. I like the idea of only having a few actual PPV’s a year and the rest being on Impact shows, although it took a while for me to come to terms with it.
Some have stated on social media that there are too many high-profile matches now in the Impact shows, but to be honest the PPV’s in my opinion don’t need to be filled with gimmick matches, the guys that wrestle on them do the extra work in the ring and that is what I tune in for. I like that we can see gimmick matches on weekly shows, the monsters ball a week or so ago is one case I have in mind.
Eric Young as the new champ wanted to prove himself worthy and why not do something out of the ordinary to do it. It was a good match and I think we all now see E Y as a champ willing to take a risk to keep the belt, yet again we have seen a character evolution that has been a very smooth transition.
Like them or loath them you can’t ignore them, Rockstar Spud and EC3. EC3 is well-rounded in the ring and can cut a good promo on the mic, but whether he was meant to be seen as a part of a comedy duo I don’t know. Spud is still to prove himself in the ring for me, I just have not seen enough of him wrestle to make a judgment on his overall ability. Maybe they should let him get some offence in during his matches rather than being squashed in every one.
I honestly believe his time will come, and it probably wont be too long but for now the comedy element he brings is well worth watching the show for. MVP also adds a little humour every now and again. Last week after setting the match between Magnus and Abyss he skipped up the entrance ramp something VERY unexpected but just a small thing that helps us all get a little closer to his character. When he is in the ring he is all business, and it is nice to see him compete as well as doing the small sections of in ring mic work and backstage segments.
So far there is only one start of TNA that I am not fully on board with, especially his new catchphrase. James storm is the man in question and I just can’t quite get on board with his character right now. I like the fact he has taken to his heel turn so well, but he just doesn’t seem to be selling it well enough for me. Whoever came up with his new catchphrase really need to do a better job though, as it even seems when Storm says it he just isn’t convinced of it.
SORRY – NOT SORRY is an awful way to evolve his previous phrase. SORRY, ABOUT YOUR DAMN LUCK really suited the face side of Storm but also made a lot of sense for the heel side too. it may be just me that hates it but face or heel the fans need to be behind the character, but with a catchphrase that bad, people just wont get behind him.
