Davie’s Dungeon: Should Daniel Bryan Be Stripped Of WWE Championship?

Welcome to the dungeon!

Since becoming the WWE World Heavyweight Champion at Wrestlemania 30, things haven’t exactly gone to plan for Daniel Bryan. He has been stuck in a terrible feud with Kane, he took time off for his honeymoon, his father sadly passed away and now he needs neck surgery.

After a seemingly long 8 months of being screwed over by The Authority and the fans getting more and more anxious as time went on, we thought it was going to be the start of a new era when Bryan won at Wrestlemania. It still could be but it all depends on what the WWE is going to do with the World Heavyweight Championship after his neck surgery.
Rumours are going around stating that Bryan could be out 6-8 weeks which isn’t a huge deal as one would think he would still be able to make appearances, depending on the seriousness of his injury.
The WWE had a similar situation with Stone Cold Steve Austin in 1997. Austin won the Intercontinental Championship from Owen Hart while sustaining a broken neck during their match. Stone Cold still made appearances on Raw to keep his character alive until his neck healed. Daniel Bryan’s injury doesn’t seem as severe as Austin’s so it could be possible that he could keep the title and be able to appear on Raw until he is cleared to wrestle.
However, Austin was the Intercontinental Champion at that time and Daniel Bryan is the World Heavyweight Champion. He is the top-man and he should be in the main-event at Payback. If the WWE can work a way around not having their main championship on the line at the PPV then his injury might not be such a big deal.
Hopefully Daniel Bryan will be back in time for the Money In The Bank PPV and the WWE will keep the title on him.
What will happen if they decide to strip him of the World Heavyweight Championship?
Looking at the roster and the current feuds that are in place, there doesn’t seem to be anyone worthy of being the champion. The usual guy we would expect to be given the title is John Cena but he is in the middle of a great feud with Bray Wyatt and it would be a shame for Wyatt if that came to an end quickly.
Randy Orton and Batista are back in Evolution and feuding with The Shield. These two factions are having a good feud and their match at Extreme Rules was one of the best of the year – if not the best.
Sheamus has just won the United States Championship and I don’t see him as a suitable replacement for Daniel Bryan anytime soon. I feel like he doesn’t have the connection with the fans that he should have whether he is face or a heel. It might just be me who thinks this but I feel his character needs a lot of work to regain his spot in the main-event slot.
There’s only one man who could be a credible champion at this moment and he is Brock Lesnar. His stock went up when he defeated The Undertaker at Wrestlemania but the fact that he is a part-time superstar dents the possibility of him being given the championship.
We won’t find out what is going to happen until Raw but I personally hope the WWE sticks with Daniel Bryan as champion if his neck surgery goes well. If they decide to strip him of the title then it’s going to be an interesting few weeks in the WWE.
