Disappointment, it’s a word / emotion that WWE evokes in us far too often. Whether it be the booking decisions, the pushing / burying of certain superstars or in this case, the teasing of an iconic superstar without that superstar showing up. They dangle the carrot, we get hungry, and then they yank it away and we don’t get to eat. We don’t starve to death though, because they toss us a bunch of diabetes candy to tide us over.
Wow, this metaphor has gotten messy, lets move on to the very average, clusterfucky, and disappointing episode of Raw.
Whispered Intensity
For the second week in a row, Roman Reigns opened Raw with another sub par speech. This time was different though. For some reason, he spoke in such hushed tones that I had to raise the volume on my TV to a ridiculous level. It’s very clear that Reigns is still green in a lot of areas, and needs to improve before he can reach that Cena level that they want him to. This week was a stumbling block, but I can guarantee it won’t stop his push because he’s the golden boy.
And negative points to both men for not even attempting to help Dean Ambrose while he being unmercifully beaten by 3 men in the back. Was it a secret beating? Did they run to the back and couldn’t find him? Or is it what I think, and they’re both dicks who don’t care!
Send Them To Détente-tion!
The US / Russia détente on Raw was effective in building to the match between Rusev and Swagger. The crowd was also super into it, but that’s not surprising when its all “USA *barf*”. The great thing is that Lana is not being the type of heel that says things that are totally logical so we sympathise with her. She is basically saying “America is stupid” (which some would agree with..) and “SHUTUP” so it makes it easy to boo her.
I just hope that this feud doesn’t just end at Battleground with Swagger getting destroyed.
RIP Cesaro’s Push
So, it would seem like the Cesaro / Heyman alliance is at an end. No official severing of ties, just the end of it without so much as a whimper. And with it continues the devaluing of Cesaro with losses to people with zero momentum like Big E, Kofi and probably Damien Sandow by the end of next week the way things are going.
I could be wrong, and Cesaro could win the IC title on Sunday, but its looking less and less likely.
Sometimes, A Boring Chant Is Appropriate
Cool Dad took a lot of punishment this week, leading up to his match with Bray Wyatt this Sunday at Battleground. But that’s not what I wanted to talk about.
Bray Wyatt got “boring” chants this week. Ordinarily, this would bother me a lot. But in thinking of this, maybe it was appropriate this week. Bray Wyatt is a great character and one that hasn’t been seen in WWE for a long time, but if you look back at his “speeches” over the last couple of months, they are all pretty much the same over and over again. Bray needs to start saying something new and relevant or people will no longer be “in his hands”.
What’s A Frenemy Again?!
I like Paige, but she was annoying as hell on commentary this week. Between her badly acted “I like AJ” routine to her super-over-explanation of the term frenemy, it was just all wrong. And since Eva Marie was in the match with AJ, I’m damn sure not going to talk about that so here’s a conspiracy theory gif set!
Cool Grandad
Oh god, what has become of Ric Flair? He was either hopped up on some cocktail of drugs and alcohol, or he was acting his age for once. Maybe both, lets say it was both…
There was also a very weird part where John Cena came out, handed Flair the WHC belt and seemed to leave it with him leading many t speculate that this was the official retiring of that belt and the reversion back to just the one. Let’s hope not, but it certainly does seem that way.
Odds Overcame
Blah blah blah, handicap situation with no drama. Blah blah blah, overcoming the odds. Blah blah, predictable outcome at Battleground. And for those of you who still think that the outcome of Sunday’s fatal 4 way match, *SPOILER ALERT*
