Welcome to the dungeon!
When I read about what happened on RAW this week, I didn’t expect to see Mark Henry and Rusev close the show! The last show before a PPV should always close with the superstars headlining the PPV, it makes sense to sell the big show.
Paul Heyman, Brock Lesnar and John Cena have been steller in their promos from what I have seen and Heyman has been superb on the mic during the feud. It’s supposed to be the big rematch, the chance for Cena to regain the title and become a 16 time World Champion, so why wouldn’t you put them in the main-event of the go-home show?
Mark Henry versus Rusev wouldn’t sell any PPV to me, probably not even Wrestlemania. It’s not a match that I want to see, Henry is too slow and even though Rusev is quite quick for his size, there’s nothing much he can do with Henry. The only reason people might have a slight interest in the match is due to the WWE using the USA/Russia tensions in a feud.
I’ve missed so much WWE lately that I don’t know many of the matches on the card for Night Of Champions and the only reason I’m interested is solely due to Paul Heyman. He has made the main-event rematch worth watching the PPV and sitting through matches that I don’t really care about.
I usually hate rematches as they struggle to live up to the first match, however I can see Cena and Brock giving the fans a better match than the first time around. Their match last month was basically just to show that Lesnar is an unstoppable monster and I thought it was planned to perfection.
Suplex after suplex after suplex, it was brilliant to watch even though I can imagine some fans hating it due to the slow pace of the match. It was brilliant storytelling so I’m interested to see how this match pans out. I don’t think the WWE could have done any better than they have considering the champion is a part-timer.
I just can’t understand why they would have Rusev and Henry close the go-home show when the Cena and Lesnar feud is so good. Not only did the WWE need to promote NOC on RAW, they needed to promote the WWE Network. If you didn’t know by now it’s only 9.99 a month!
Sorry WWE, but booking Rusev and Henry to close your show isn’t going to sell anything to me. Anyone with a brain would have had Cena and Heyman go out last, do their promo and have Heyman sell the PPV and the network to the fans.
As I watched Henry and Rusev I was literally bored, wanting it to end quickly so I could turn it off and that’s the last thing the WWE should want any fan to think. Not only does the WWE want the fans in America to purchase the network, they want the fans around the world to buy it (where it’s available).
I am going to watch NOC but simply because Paul Heyman has done a fantastic job in selling the Cena/Lesnar feud. Hopefully for the WWE, fans will think of the main-event and not think of Rusev and Henry when they are considering buying the PPV.
