The Voice of Reason: Sheamus to Cash-In?

In what has the potential to be the best PPV of the year, Night of Champions falls this Sunday, only on the WWE Network. It could be the best because there are so many possible outcomes to each and every match. Will Daniel Bryan return? Will Roman Reigns finally make his heel turn? Will The Shield get back together? And many, many more.

The one factor that has been bought up consistently by fans and by the WWE themselves is the possibility of Sheamus cashing in his Money In The Bank briefcase at Night of Champions, teasing that Seth Rollins may have 3 matches at the PPV. I have found it strange that this has been bought up y the WWE. The history, tradition and entertainment factor of the MITB briefcase is the element of surprise. We never know when it may be cashed-in. We do get an idea and hear rumours, but very rarely do the WWE themselves pretty much spoil the entire point of the cash-in.

This makes me think that it may be a bluff, to get viewers, ratings and subscribers for the network. But I’m not here to talk about the justification behind advertising a potential cash-in, but whether Sheamus should or will cash-in at Night of Champions.

Let’s say Sheamus does cash-in? The question really is how long does his reign last (the assumption being Sheamus wins). If it’s going to be a quick stint, with Rollins regaining pretty much immediately (Sting isn’t a long term champion), then I think get it over with now. The whole point is to make lasting storylines, and while this will not apply to every single storyline, for the main champion, it has to last and has to matter.

When I read rumours and potential news, we consistently read that Rollins is to hold the title at WrestleMania with Reigns potentially going on to beat him as Romans Revenge. If that’s the case, then why shouldn’t Sheamus cash-in now?

Personally, I do hope to see a cash-in this weekend. While Seth Rollins has done a stellar job as the champion, playing the perfect heel and having great matches, all storylines become stale. This hasn’t happened to Seth yet, but it should be prevented. If I was to book the main event this week, I would have Triple H turn on Rollins, and inadvertently help Sting win the title off of Rollins.

This gives Sting (on paper) the WWE World Heavyweight title, a title he has never won. Infuriated by his turn, Triple H goes to pedigree Sting, helping Sheamus cash-in, as there is always a plan B. This leaves Sheamus, a phenomenal heel, as The Authority’s flagship champion, giving him and Rollins a great few matches at the next PPV’s.

If the ultimate goal is to put the title on Reigns, he would have to turn heel on the night also. You can’t have all 3 members of The Shield as babyface as it would defeat the purpose. Roman would eventually be The Authority’s pick (playing into the face that fans believe he already is) leading the the main event at Mania.

Feel free to comment and share. Hope you all have a good Night of Champions weekend!
