The Demon & The Architect

Seth Rollins and Corporate Kane have been at odds for the better part of six months, ever since Seth captured the World title at Wrestlemania 31 Kane has been there at his side guarding his reign. The hostility between the two grew during the spring and early summer months as Rollins believed Kane’s role within the Authority was useless and that he was over the hill. The dissention between the Authority members reached boiling point in July as Kane injured (kaybafe) by the hands of Brock Lesnar was mercifully attacked by Seth at ringside and subsequently his leg was broken from the attack.

In Kane’s absence Rollins would go on to defeat Brock Lesnar at Battleground and capture the US title from John Cena in an exciting MOTY candidate at Summerslam in August. Seth was sitting pretty in WWE, life was very sweet indeed…..well it was until Night of Champions in September. On that night Seth dropped the title back to Cena, he then went onto retain his World title against Sting but in the aftermath the ‘Demon’ Kane returned for revenge. He chokeslammed and tombstoned the champion and left him laying in the middle of the ring. As soon as this scenario played out I knew what was next and I was by no means happy.

Kane’s return to TV has seen him adopt both his Big Red Machine and Corporate Kane persona’s, this has been on the whole played for laughs by Kane and the WWE. He’s appeared as both character’s on the same show, making matches as the corporate stooge and getting involved as the Demon. Kane’s dual identity behaviour has irked Rollins and the men are set to clash this Sunday at Hell In A Cell with the World title at stake. Seth has once more played the selfish egotistical champion in this feud, with Kane getting the one up on him at every opportunity and portraying the champion as coward.

Seth as WWE World Champion I feel has been a success, in every segment and match he has made the best of it and come out on top every single time. His dedication to his profession is there for all to see and it’s easy to see why WWE chose Seth to be the future for the NXT age. Seth’s challengers have been varied, from Orton, Dean, Roman, Cena, Lesnar and Sting the list is long and keeps getting longer, by defeating the names mentioned it has given credence to Seth’s time on top but the Kane feud however doesn’t add anything. Kane is a 20 year veteran of WWE who has done it all, from his iconic debut as Kane, his unmasking in 2003 and 2010 MITB win there is nothing the Big Red Machine hasn’t accomplished. He is also won a grand total of 18 championships from World titles to Tag titles, Kane truly is an icon and a legend in this business.

The downside to all of this is that Kane was never a great worker, his matches although memorable were never that technical or exciting and now in 2015 we are in the winter of his career, I don’t personally think that a 48 year old Kane should be competing for the World title this Sunday when WWE has the wealth of talent it does on the side-lines looking on. After NOC WWE had so many options, Cesaro, Ziggler, Dean, Sheamus the opportunities to have someone else challenge Seth are endless, WWE played it safe instead. The result at HIAC is not in doubt, Seth Rollins is walking in champion and walking out the champ!

In the back of my mind I know WWE are using Kane to put Rollins over strong this Sunday, this has all been fun but at HIAC Seth will get the win and the bragging rights and hopefully his character will look stronger in victory. Kane has had a nice run back in the main event scene  and some of his stuff has been entertaining but Kane is not what Seth needs 6 months into his tenure as champion. This match is set in stone but I’m just frustrated with who Seth could have been facing instead. So there is no doubt I think in any wrestling fans mind to what the result will be Sunday, the only other remaining factor in all of this is Sheamus.

The current Money in the Bank holder has been awfully quiet and in WWE land that usually signals a cash in with immediate effect. I for one am not excited at the prospect of a Sheamus cash in and World title reign, I like the guy but he shouldn’t be near the World title. I can see something happening tomorrow night but Kane no matter the result is going to protect his position within the Authority and save Rollins once more……as the saying goes “keep your friends close but you’re enemies closer” and Seth and Kane are most definitely enemies.
