Impact Lock-down 2016: February 23 2016

Tonight’s episode of Impact Wrestling is a made-for-TV PPV style show. Lockdown is the setting where all matches are featured in the six sides of steel. However, it is sad though that they are hot-shotting (or trying to) by using PPV quality matches and having it culminate for ratings (as opposed to buy-rates, and a higher gate).

POP-TV will give you the following: Matt Hardy vs EC3, Ethan Carter the third. The Dollhouse members of Marti Belle, Jade and Rebel will face off against the Beautiful People (copycats, so to speak) who are Madison Rayne, and Velvet Sky of TBP, teaming with Gail Kim.

The Knockouts Division has great matches and great talent, but no storylines. Meaning, nobody who wants something of more substance beyond what’s in the ring, isn’t satisfied. The storyline is weak and a knock-off of the Divas Revolution. Problem is: Impact doesn’t have enough depth in the women’s part of the roster, and too many match rehashes.

In other bouts, Beer Money will face Bram and Eric Young; which is a similar feud of Beer Money-Motor City Machine Guns in terms of their ongoing rivalry and series of matches. This by far, should be the best match on the card and be booked as a semi-main event.

How men like Drew Galloway and Mike Bennett are getting the slow build (prior to their own feud, and comes across as “let’s just put them in, Creative has nothing else for them). But, why did they not have any real “viable” opponents to sink their teeth into for a quality storyline (as opposed to just a match and a in-ring feud) is a shame. Those two guys along with Drake, Mandrews, Shera should be booked and promoted better, as a influx of styles and “faces” as TNA. Where are they going with guys like Eli Drake, Godderz and Mandrews? They are young and need more besides trading wins for losses and the “matches and moves” on the card. Why not push these guys more?

Eli Drake, speaking of which in the silliest “story” (YAWN) AND LACK OF CREATIVITY- is going against Odarg the Great, who is Grado in a mask. Ok, the Super Eric was entertaining and WORKED, because Eric Young is a favorite character, was “over” and had the emotional investment of the crowd. Plus, Young had more tenure in TNA and was a better talent, with better execution of the hokey-style gimmick. So therefore, people are accustomed to Eric and his incarnations. Grado isn’t. Since this is hokey and not “drawing”, even as lame entertainment- looks like the Aces & 0.8’s weren’t so bad after all… (Better than this at least, wink, wink)

Tune in tonight, February 23rd 2016 at 9:00 on PopTV.
