Whether we like it or not, the main event of Wrestlemania 32 will be Triple H defending the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Roman Reigns. The evil corporate authority figure Triple H will do battle against the Samoan badass Roman. It seems like the perfect match-up with the “top” babyface in the company looking to dethrone the evil man in charge. However, there’s a lot of theories going around that this dynamic will be switched around once Wrestlemania is over. There’s a huge idea going around that a double turn will happen, where Reigns will turn heel and HHH will turn face. The question is, will this actually happen?

Wrestlemania 32: Double Turn For Roman Reigns Vs Triple H?
- By Tom Robinson in Editorials, Slider, WWE
Roman Reigns, as I’ve written about seemingly hundreds of times, is the company’s biggest pet project in the last five years. Never has someone been as pushed and protected in the last five years as Roman Reigns has. Even despite constant negative reactions, the WWE still pushed on. In a way, you’ve got to give the WWE credit. They still kept marching on and on until Roman won the WWE title on RAW in Philadelphia, in the same city that he was heavily booed in 12 months beforehand at the Royal Rumble. WWE, to a degree, has made some progress with Roman Reigns.
Therefore, the idea that WWE would simply give up and resort to turning Roman heel would seem out of the question. They’ve put all of this effort into Roman. Why give up now and except defeat? It’s not like buys and subscription numbers will plummet if Roman wins the belt, even despite the #CancelWWENetwork hashtag trending after Fastlane. People will get Wrestlemania regardless of who is in the main event of Wrestlemania and who wins it. There’s no real risk of Roman’s match killing the company so you might as well go all the way and finish what you started.
Vince McMahon is a man that takes a lot of pride in what he does, which is a great quality to have. However, he doesn’t strike me as someone that will hold his hands up if things go wrong until he really needs to. He will go out of his way to get Roman over and he seems to have too much pride to admit defeat. There’s a big part of me that truly believes that there’s no going back on these plans.
However, the WWE have went back on their plans in the past. Just look at the last two Wrestlemania main events, where the outcomes were changed at the last minute. WWE will change things if they need to and are not as committed to long-term booking as they used to be. They could change their minds if they want. Because they can change their minds doesn’t mean they will however. The man that holds the final call is Vince McMahon after all.
The point is that the possibilities are there for alternative endings. Therefore, the finish to the main event of Wrestlemania is not set in stone just yet. The next most popular suggestion for a finish is some sort of double turn, where Roman will turn heel and Triple H will turn face. This is a bit more difficult to pull off for a number of reasons. Firstly, it’s very hard for me to throw around the idea of possibly Vince or Stephanie McMahon turning on Triple H. In the past, the McMahon family would turn on each other all the time. Heck, there’s a storyline going on right now with Shane McMahon battling Vince and Stephanie for control of RAW. But Triple H is completely different. I’m not sure that Triple H would want to have his children watch their parents at odds with each other on television anymore.
Stranger things have happened, but I just don’t see another storyline occurring where Triple H is up against Stephanie. In 2016, I think it’ll be extremely difficult to pull off as the fans wouldn’t buy it in the slightest. If Triple H turns, the chances are that Stephanie will turn with him. Vince can remain a heel and still feud with Triple H as he’s Vince. However, I just don’t see Vince turning on Triple H having any effect. It also makes little sense from a storytelling perspective. Why would Vince turn on Triple H (and possibly Stephanie) to help Roman Reigns win the title? It also doesn’t help that Vince would not be on television all the time to help Roman out with his promos.
It’s a very hard act to sell. I think Triple H turning face would be extremely difficult with Roman turning heel as well. However, there is one more thing I want to mention about this particular theory.
There’s a lot of rumours going around about a political chess-match backstage between two men – Triple H and Vince McMahon. On RAW a week ago, Triple H beat up Roman Reigns to a tremendous babyface reaction. Dave Meltzer mentioned on Wrestling Observer Live that many within WWE believe that Triple H was intentionally trying to get that reaction from the crowd. If this is true, then maybe Triple H is trying to force the issue himself by showing Vince McMahon where the wind should be blowing. It did seem like a babyface beat down when comparing it to when Roman beat up Triple H at TLC.
Think about it. At TLC, Roman was unprovoked when he attacked Triple H. On RAW, Roman charged Triple H on the entrance ramp. Now granted, Triple H did interrupt Roman’s match with Sheamus. However, Triple H didn’t start fighting until Roman attacked first. Roman tried to cheap shot Triple H. The TLC attack was interesting as the announcers were playing it up as if Roman was delivering a heel attack. However on RAW, everybody cheered when Triple H was beating up Reigns. If you take Triple H’s position as the “evil” COO out the equation, the logic suggests that Triple H was in the right while Roman was in the wrong. Roman attacked Triple H at TLC and Triple H got his revenge. Triple H hasn’t done anything physically to Roman which warranted such an attack. He never cost Roman the title at Survivor Series, he never cost Roman at TLC and he didn’t prevent Roman from winning at Fastlane. Triple H is acting more of a face than Roman.
Maybe I’m looking a bit too much into this and this could all easily be WWE booking illogically, but there has to be more to these attacks than just “he attacked him” and “he attacked him back.” Why were these attacks laid out in that manner? Maybe these are the seeds being planted for a double turn and maybe the fans will get the Roman Reigns heel turn that they’ve always wanted.
However, this is all merely speculation at this point. I don’t actually think the double turn will happen but there are several reasons to believe that something maybe getting cooked up by the writers. What do you believe the finish of Roman Reigns vs Triple H will be?
