TNA – Doing Something Right?

This past weekend was the first time in a very long time I have taken the time to watch TNA Impact wrestling. It was the Sacrifice special. One thing that sticks out for me is the fact that despite all the trials and tribulations the company are going through behind the scenes, there a signs that they are actually getting things right on TV at least.

With the exception of NXT, their WWE counterparts rely on script heavy promo’s, which can very often drag and at times the in-ring product can suffer because of this. However with this particular TNA show it was the polar opposite. There were promos but they were short and to the point. They let the in-ring action further rivalries and to sell the stories being told and that is what wrestling fans want right?

During roughly 80 minutes of action I would say at least 80% of this time was spent witnessing actual in-ring work being done. Whilst the action was a little bit two paced at times, the overall quality of the matches was pretty good for a company that is rebuilding and building new stars for themselves for the future.

I know this was a ‘TNA Special’ so that’s why we were treated to three title matches on the show so that won’t be a regular occurrence however is the roughly 80% of the show based on in-ring action a regular thing that i’ve been missing for TNA? Or does this only happen with “Specials” as it does in the monthly ‘PPV’s’ for the WWE?

I for one hope that this is a regular event, so I am going to be watching the weekly Impact shows going forward to see if this in indeed a regular event. If they do continue to do this, and if they can sort their issues that are going on behind the scenes, and if they can keep the stars they create from going on to pastures new, TNA could quite easily get back to where they were in their pomp 4/5 years ago.
