Monday Night RAW opened up with Seth Rollins still prying his way into the title picture versus Roman Reigns. The two men will battle at Money in the Bank pay per view, exclusively on the Network. Rollins return was well-hyped and also featured a WWE 24 biographical airing which included the means and avenues to Seth’s career and recovery from knee ACL/MCL tear.
Additionally, Monday’s airing had a snippet with wrestlers on the ramp, paying tribute to our veterans past and present over Memorial Day. The return of John Cena since his own injury and subsequent surgery to his shoulder; came out to a very passionate in-ring promo segment. This is met with the initial “congratulations” and introduction by AJ Styles. Instead, the big reveal and swerve is Styles turning heel and reuniting with The Club (as it was a ruse all along).
The New Day hyped their 281 tag team title reign and continuing their feud with the Vaudevillians. However, the Club were the ones who attacked and put the New Day on notice. Gallows and Anderson are here to run roughshod, take names and win the tag titles. Segments and attacks featuring Sheamus and Apollo Crews laid the groundwork for their future feud, as Crews is part of the New Era, while established talent are threatened by the new incumbents.
The Uso’s wrestled Breeze-Dango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango) in tag team action, with The Golden Truth on commentary. Rusev, the United States champion defeated Zach Ryder with Titus O’Neil implications post-match because of the scathing running down of America promo by Rusev.
The Charlotte fallout with the promo and disowning of her father, legendary Ric Flair still rumbles on. Dana Brooke was featured and victorious in her young WWE RAW career on the active main roster. The victory led to Becky Lynch arriving and she will wrestle Charlotte in singles action on Smackdown.
The main event featured six man tag team action and the individuals who are representing the MITB match itself in 2016. Cesaro, Dean Ambrose and Sami Zayn defeated the trio of Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho and Alberto Del Rio. Ambrose hit Owens with a Dirty Deeds DDT for the win.
In closing, lots of groundwork was laid down for future feuds, but most fans are excited by two things: The heel turn by Styles and the looming rumors and idea of a Draft Lottery, which is speculated to occur in July 2016.
