Welcome to TWB’s review of Takeover: The End, in this article I will give my opinions on each match and give each match an overall rating
Tye Dillinger vs Andrade “Cien” Almas
This match opened up the Takeover Special, as the NXT universe got their first impression of the former Mexican star La Sombra against the ever popular Tye Dillinger. This match shocked me personally, as I thought Tye Dillinger looked the more dominant superstar, and I’m not overly impressed with Andrade. That being said I’ll give him a few more opportunities before I give my final verdict on NXT’S newest superstar
Match rating – 6/10
American Alpha vs The Revival
In my opinion this was match of the night, numerous near falls and false finishes. The Full Sail University crowd were totally into this match, chanting the usual “Save the Gable” and “Jordan and Gable” chants. This in my opinion was The Revival’s best match in NXT, and the finish was perfect. Jordan and Gable setting up for Grand Amplitude only for Dash to push Gable out of the ring and along with Dawson to hit the Shatter Machine and surprisingly regain the NXT Tag Team Championship. Then after the match American Alpha seemingly have a ready made feud, as two mysterious guys came out and attacked Jordan and Gable viciously.
Match rating – 9/10
Austin Aries vs Shinsuke Nakamura
Yet another fantastic match, Aries played the opportunistic heel perfectly and has found his footing in NXT. Shinsuke Nakamura is still being treated as a mega star in NXT and rightfully so, the crowd for this match was similar to the Dallas crowd for Takeover: Dallas. I wouldn’t go as far as saying that this match was as good as Zayn vs Nakamura however that being said it was a great match, with numerous cool spots especially Aries suicide dive onto Nakamura, then Aries dropping Nakamura onto the ring apron was perfect. In my predictions article I said that Aries hadn’t lived up to his “greatest man that ever lived” hype, however last night was the beginning of a more vicious Aries and even though he lost, Aries looked like a star.
Match rating – 8/10
Asuka vs Nia Jax
This match was relatively similar to Bayley vs Nia Jax from Takeover: London. Nia looked dominant over Asuka for the majority of the match, Asuka had some offence by locking in submission moves to wear down Nia, and in my opinion Asuka basically having to knock Nia out was the right finish. I have to ask though what’s next, Bayley has a rematch surely so I presume we’ll see Asuka vs Bayley II at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn.
Match rating – 7/10
Samoa Joe vs Finn Balor
I wouldn’t say this was the best match that Samoa Joe and Finn Balor have had in their feud, perhaps because they were restricted inside the steel cage. However the steel cage is the perfect way to end their feud. They used the cage for the right spots, Balor hitting the slingblade off the cage was a personal favourite of mine. Samoa Joe looked like a ruthless dominant monster, whereas it seems that Finn Balor will be heading to the main roster, considering there’s nothing left in NXT for him to do now.
Match rating – 7/10
I presume at Takeover: Brooklyn we’ll get Nakamura vs Joe for the title, along with many more matches, rumours were suggesting that this was “The End” of NXT, but quoting the words of The Carpenters or Chubbs in Happy Gilmore “We’ve only just begun”
