#TheWrestlingBrain: #AEW Ticket Announcement Party Recap (@callumowen98)

This week in Las Vegas outside the MGM Grand Garden Arena, AEW held their 2nd official press conference. Throughout the press conference, there were more announcements made in regards to their first show ‘Double Or Nothing’ which takes place on May 25th at the aforementioned MGM Grand Garden Arena.

For those who missed it I will bring you the main takeaways from what happened.

Alpha Vs Omega 2

Firstly, it was finally revealed that Kenny Omega has signed with AEW, which puts any speculation of him joining WWE to bed. He appeared in what was the closing segment of the conference, however as he was beginning to wrap up his speech he was interrupted by an old rival of his, Chris Jericho. They’d have a pull apart brawl with Jericho returning to the back, and even though nothing has been officially announced I assume at Double Or Nothing it will be Alpha Vs Omega 2 likely in the main event.

Now of course about 13 months ago, Jericho and Omega were across the ring from each other at Wrestle Kingdom 12, in what was one of the biggest matches (IMO) of 2018 and now it looks like we’ll be getting a rematch between the two. This makes perfect sense, Jericho and Omega are probably the two biggest stars of AEW, and they need a main event that won’t just bring in your NXT/ROH/NJPW crowd, but your Monday Nght Raw and Smackdown fans and this is the best main event that they can do with the roster they have on their hands.

Seeing Jericho wrestle for the first time outside of WWE in the USA in 20 years, is a major deal and a major draw for this show, so his opponent being Omega makes this probably the biggest non WWE PPV main event in a very long time.

Women’s Roster Gets New Acquisitions

Chief Brand Officer Brandi Rbodes confirmed new additions to the Women’s division, as she announced Aja Kong and Yuka Sakazaki will be at Double Or Nothing, and then also revealed that Kylie Rae and Nyla Rose had signed with the company.

I’ll be brutally honest I don’t follow Women’s independent wrestling, it hasn’t really got a major following here in the UK, so I’ve never seen any of these 4 women compete. However I think I’m not the only who’ll be in the same position, which makes it exciting and intriguing as on May 25th I’ll be watching talent that I’ve never seen before in my life compete on a big platform.

The Bucks vs. The Bros

The Young Bucks stated that they will make the AEW Tag Team Division the best, and this brought out Chuckie T and Trent Berretta aka Best Friends, who announced that they’d signed to AEW.

Then after they walked to the back, the Lucha Bros (Rey Fenix JR and Pentagon JR) threw the challenge down to the Young Bucks and laid them out, with a Superkick to Nick and a Piledriver onto Matt. Again this will be another match that’ll likely happen at Double Or Nothing, much like Omega Vs Jericho, this is the best match possible that AEW can book with their current talent, and it’ll be a barnburner for certain.

SCU Vs OWE

Christopher Daniels made the challenge to the OWE president CIMA that at Double Or Nothing, it will SCU Vs CIMA and two partners from OWE. During the press conference a video package was shown with clips from OWE shows to hype up their roster and to let people know what to expect from them.

For Being The Elite fans and ROH/NJPW followers everybody knows who SCU are, so pairing them up against wrestlers who aren’t as well known is another good move, as SCU will likely put over their opponents and make them into recognisable names on the AEW roster.

AAA Partnership

AEW announced that the roster from the Mexican Lucha Libre promotion AAA will be featured in their company, Cody Rhodes brought out AAA Cruiserweight Champion Sammy Guevara who announced that he had signed with the company, and proclaimed that he is one of the best wrestlers in the world. I assume he will be wrestling at Double Or Nothing but whoever he faces is still a mystery.

Sonny Kiss Signs

Transgender wrestler Sonny Kiss opened the press conference, throwing shirts into the crowd and into the pool, and he announced that he’d be at Double Or Nothing. This is fantastic for diversity and equality, the fact AEW will be promoting and supporting a transgender wrestler is the right move in terms of doing what they’re setting out to achieve “change the world”

That was my recap of last night’s AEW Ticket Announcement party, I’ll be back for anymore conferences that AEW hold and I’ll be doing predictions in a few months time for Double Or Nothing.
