Hello it’s me TWB, and I’m back for a double dose of predictions across this Summerslam weekend, and today I’m going to talk about the ‘Biggest Party of the Summer’ Summerslam, which airs live from Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. We have an 8 match card to go through, so let’s not waste any more time, and let’s get started.
The Street Profits (C) Vs Andrade and Angel Garza – Raw Tag Team Championship Match
These two teams have seemingly been feuding with each other for the last few months, granted during that point you had the Viking Raiders Vs Street Profits rivalry, but Garza and Andrade have always been there or thereabouts in the Tag Team Title picture.
There’s a real problem with the Raw Tag division, bar these two teams and the aforementioned Viking Raiders, there’s no one else that gets featured on the show unless you count The Hurt Business, therefore whatever the result is in this match there’s a strong chance that these two teams will still be feuding post-Summerslam.
However I feel a title change is required, to freshen things up, so I’m going with Garza and Andrade.
Winners (New Raw Tag Team Champions) – Angel Garza and Andrade
Mandy Rose Vs Sonya Deville – Hair Vs Hair
This is one of the matches I’m most looking forward to, former best friends Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville have been feuding since Wrestlemania time and their rivalry has heated up in the last few weeks, with Sonya assaulting and cutting Mandy’s hair.
I genuinely don’t have a preference for this one, I just hope that following this feud, both women continue to get pushed and may be elevated to the title picture, as Smackdown is lacking on contenders for currently Bayley’s belt, so much that a Raw superstar is challenging for the blue brand’s Women’s Championship.
I’m going to say though that Mandy wins, usually, in Hair Vs Hair matches, it’s the heel that gets his or her comeuppance so Sonya will be on the losing end of this one, but hopefully, it’ll lead to an even more sadistic and evil Deville.
Winner – Mandy Rose
Apollo Crews (C) Vs MVP – United States Championship Match
This rivalry between the US champion Crews and the leader of The Hurt Business MVP has been featured prominently on Raw over the last few weeks, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as at least the US Title is been on TV regularly, but it does feel that we’ve seen Apollo and MVP face off against each other in one on one or tag matches an awful lot.
I think Crews needs to win, and probably have a decent reign with title, he’s getting the best push of his WWE career, and to keep his momentum a victory is crucial, as I’d feel if he loses he’ll be back to square one.
Winner (Still United States Champion) – Apollo Crews
Bayley (C) Vs Asuka – Smackdown Women’s Championship Match
Asuka is pulling double duty on the PPV, as she faces both members of the Golden Role Models for their titles. I’m a fan of all 3 involved, but I’d have rather seen someone else take on Bayley, whether it be an NXT star or another member of the Smackdown roster, even though Bayley has defeated most of them in her 10-month reign as champion.
However this is the match that we’ve been given, and honestly, I don’t know what’ll happen, I can’t see Asuka leaving as double champion, but she won’t lose both title shots either, therefore I’m going to take a punt (not like a Randy Orton one), and say Asuka will lose to Bayley thanks to helping from Sasha Banks again.
Winner (Still Smackdown Women’s Champion) – Bayley
Sasha Banks (C) Vs Asuka – Raw Women’s Champion
So I’ve given away my prediction already, so I can keep this one short and sweet, I think Asuka becomes new Raw champion, meaning she can feud with Shayna Baszler.
Winner (New Raw Women’s Champion) – Asuka
Dominik Mysterio Vs Seth Rollins – Street Fight Match
The match I’m most looking forward to all Summerslam weekend features a debuting Dominik Mysterio, this whole feud between both Mysterio’s and The Monday Night Messiah, has been really enjoyable, and whilst the Eye for an Eye match back at Extreme Rules between Rey and Seth, did get some backlash, I quite enjoyed it, and ever since Dom has got involved looking for revenge any segment has had my interest.
This one will be interesting how it plays it’ll be Dominik’s first match, and having the Street Fight stipulation will no doubt help him hide any weaknesses he may have. Also by having Murphy and Mysterio on the outside they will no doubt have some involvement in the match.
I could see Murphy potentially turning on Rollins, over the past few weeks, he’s been somewhat hesitant to attack both Rey and Dominik, and definitely was affected when he injured Black on Seth’s orders, therefore my prediction is Murphy attacks Seth which allows both Mysterio’s to hit a Double 619 onto Rollins for the victory. This leads to a feud between The Monday Night Messiah and Murphy, whilst the Mysterio’s can go for the Tag Titles which I’ve already alluded to needs more contenders.
Winner – Dominik Mysterio
Braun Strowman Vs The Fiend – Universal Championship Match
Last month in my Extreme Rules predictions article, I said I had little to no interest in this feud between the former two Wyatt Family members, and whilst the inclusion of Alexa Bliss has brought something new and different to the rivalry, I’m still not really looking forward to this match, for a few reasons.
Firstly Braun’s reign as champion has been pretty lacklustre, but a win for the Fiend on Sunday puts us back in the same place that we were in last year where someone who doesn’t need the title is champion, and lastly, I can’t see this feud ending after this PPV, because who else is there in the Universal Championship picture, and my answer is no-one.
Daniel Bryan is out following the birth of Brie’s baby, Roman Reigns is off for what I assume is the foreseeable future, and other faces or heels on the roster seem to have other things going on.
Therefore I think whether it’s for better or for worse The Fiend wins on Sunday, which prolongs the feud for a few more weeks.
Winner (New Universal Champion) – ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt
Drew McIntyre (C) Vs Randy Orton – WWE Championship Match
And I finish my Summerslam predictions with probably the toughest match to call, on one hand, you have Drew McIntyre who has been a great WWE Champion, and easily could hold the title for many more months to come, or you have Randy Orton who’s arguably been the top heel in the company for 2020.
Orton has been punting legends left, right and centre for the past few months, starting with Edge, Christian, The Big Show, Ric Flair and as seen on this week’s episode of Raw Shawn Michaels, and if he punts Drew McIntyre on Sunday night we very well could have a new WWE Champion.
However Drew is always one Claymore away from a victory and another successful title defence, but there’s Retribution to think about and whether they will get involved, and I think that’s where my prediction is going to go.
So Drew will have Orton set-up for the Claymore, but the lights go out, and come back on and Retribution will have surrounded the ring, and attack Drew leading to a DQ finish, Drew lies motionless in the ring following the ambush, and as he manages to get up, Orton Punts him, leading to the two having a rematch at next week’s PPV Payback.
Winner (Still WWE Champion) – Drew McIntyre (by DQ)
