#SLTDManiaMonth #KayfabeKrimes – Top Five: Worst Celebrities at Wrestlemania (@KayfabeKrimes)

Wrestlemania is known for its celebrity guest, but a lot of the time this is all about the payday, and they have no idea what’s going on.

So it’s time for my worst five celebrity appearances at Wrestlemania. This list is probably more prestigious than the Oscars, and all five of these entrants fought hard for their role. So in no particular order, put your hands together for the five worst celebrity appearances at Wrestlemania!

FIVE: Susan Saint James – Wrestlemania

Susan Saint James was the guest commentator for the first third of Wrestlemania 2. So she didn’t go over a trained wrestler, nor did she get into any altercations with anyone backstage. It all sounds good, right? Wrong. She may not have been apart of a cardinal sin, of burying talent in the ring or on-air, but she did something, that as a commentator is arguably worse.

She didn’t say anything. After some research, I managed to find what I think is a comprehensive breakdown of her colour commentary during the event. “Uh oh”. Quite the wordsmith. I understand that perhaps she wasn’t a wrestling fan in the first place, and simply took the role because she needed a gig. Either it was her nerves, or no one bothered to give her a quick breakdown of what to say or do.

I feel kind of bad for her, at least she wasn’t as bad as Art Donavan at KofTR 94.

FOUR: Kim Kardashian – Wrestlemania 24

The now global mega-star Kim Kardashian was once-upon-a-time the hostess for Wrestlemania. So did she get into some wild antics? Did she announce a special surprise match that got fans off their feet? Nope. She announced the attendance (all be it probably fake if we know WWE) and had a brief ‘back and forth (if you can call it that) with Mr Kennedy.

She was talking to the camera, and in pop’s Kenny boy to drop his line ‘MRRRRRR KENNEDY’. That was all. Kardashian reacted with a smile, and an ‘oh no you didn’t’ hand raise. It’s a shame because, from the one episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashian’s I’ve watched, I feel 2018 Kim could actually have a bit of fun with the hostess role.

She seems to have some semblance of charisma, and I feel that modern WWE who are more engaged with the social media age, would give her something to get people buzzing! Hopefully, she could bring Kanye…

THREE: Regis Philbin – Wrestlemania 7

Apparently, Regis Philbin is a legend in US television, so I assume he would know how to conduct himself right? But no. Whether this was a script or it was Regis improving, I’m just astounded by how ignorant his whole interview with legends like Tenryu and Kaito. Pulling from Uproxx, here are some quotes of some of the stupid things said in Regis’ interview with the two Japanese performers:

“Joining us straight from Japan, Connie Chung eat your heart out”

 “YOU SPEAK ANY ENGLISH?”

“TOYOTA! Wait till you hear this, I’m on a roll now! ISUZU!”

“Big conference going on! WHAT’RE THEY SAYING?”

“Kathie Lee, at home! Regis here, Wrestlemania. You Tenryu! You Kitao! Me Regis!”

I’m just, wow. This is terrible. And just, I’m lost for words… If this was a scripted interview, I hope whoever wrote it was fired immediately.

TWO: Sy Sperling – Wrestlemania 10

This is going to be the quickest entrant, literally one sentence. THE WHOLE TIME HIS BACK WAS TO THE HARD CAM! Enough said…

1: The Rock – Wrestlemania 27

GOD DAMN IT, HE COUNTS! At this Mania, The Rock was the host, not a wrestler, and I damn well will treat him like a celebrity guest. The great one, all be it one of my favourite wrestlers, is responsible for one of the worst Wrestlemania main events ever!

I love 2016-Present Miz, but come on! In 2011, having the Miz go over Cena because of The Scorpion King riles me up. Sure it led to two money-making matches over the next two Wrestlemania’s, but it arguably led to the departure of CM Punk, who fully deserved to headline Wrestlemania 29.

If Rock had simply restarted the double count-out finish to Cena v. Miz, he would have gotten a huge pop, and everyone would have loved him! But no, he had to go get in the ring, at the grandest stage of them all, and layout Big Match John…

This left fans with a confused feeling, and pretty much buried The Miz, as the entire focus was shifted not only from him but also the bloody WWE Championship!

If they’d waited one day, this would have been great, just not at Mania… But damn it this doesn’t stop me from enjoying his movies… can’t wait for Rampage! (Not a promotion, but if you know Dwayne, see if he’ll hire me please).

There are @KayfabeKrimes five worst Wrestlemania celebrity guests. Do you agree? Who do you think is the worst guest in Wrestlemania history? Let us know below or tweek us @SLTDWrestling
