#MouthingOff with MikeJC: Dynamite Weekly. Wednesday March 17th #AEWDynamite: St. Patrick’s Day Slam Ep.76 (@MikeJC821)

Welcome, everyone to the latest edition of #MouthingOff (with MikeJC): Dynamite Weekly, the weekly review feature on AEW Dynamite here on SLTDWrestling.com. I will be giving my thoughts and opinions on all the highlights of the show as well as giving the “Remarkable Wrestler” of the week. So here are the highlights of the Wednesday, March 17th edition of AEW Dynamite: St. Patrick’s Day Slam

Penta El Zero Miedo vs. Cody Rhodes

This was a good match that started off hot as Penta jumped over the top rope with a plancha to start the match. They brawled on the outside and the match started with Penta getting cocky right out the gate. I enjoyed the back and forth in this match and enjoyed Penta showing character that he didn’t really have before. Cody hit a great looking frankensteiner on the top to a standing Penta which looked really good.

Cody sent Penta outside with a disaster kick then he hit a suicide dive to knock Penta into the cover of an announce table and when he brought him back in the ring . Cody hit a destroyer which I feel defeats the purpose of selling the shoulder injury but the match continued and again Cody selling the shoulder the whole time but because mid way through the match he hit a Cross Rhodes that probably didn’t hit as hard because of that shoulder because Penta kicked out. In such cases, it is best to get help from lawyers for traffic accident victims in Rosemead who also specialize in personal injuries.

Now to something I didn’t like, the whole entire match Cody selling the arm and shoulder which I can’t reiterate enough and Penta kicked out of everything he had and after Penta hits an arm breaker on Cody, Penta gets cocky and Cody hits a sunset flip for a surprise pin. I hate this finish because first a sunset flip doesn’t look as tough to kick out of as other surprise pins and with Penta fighting back all match and having an answer for everything for him to lose via a sunset flip is kind of weak and on top of that not selling the armbreaker to boot doesn’t make Penta look good even though it was a surprise victory I hate that a lot.

Post match, Penta attacked Cody after, but he was saved by Dustin and Gunn Club, QT Marshall would come out after Penta was on his way out acting like he didn’t know what was happening and the rest of the Nightmare Family was wondering what took him so long.

Segment Rating: 5.5/10

I would have rated this match higher if not for the weak finish I assume this feud will continue but does it really matter they already made Penta look weak. I assume Penta will get his win back in a more definitive manner and that maybe help but I don’t like the way this went down at all.

Jade Cargill vs. Dani Jordyn

This was a very quick match with not a lot to talk about the entire match was Bicycle Kick, release German suplex which looked really good by the way, and then Jade hit her version of the Glam Slam for the pin. They clearly see Jade as a big star in the making and we will probably see more performances like this one to keep building her up which is completely fine. After the match Jade got right in the face of Red Velvet who was sitting ringside. So it appears they will probably have a singles match down the road.

Segment Rating: 5/10

This was a fine way to showcase Jade as it was a full on squash match and those are the kinds of matches she should be having at this point because she isn’t a star yet but she will be down the line.

The Pinnacle Arrives

Earlier in the night we see MJF, Wardlow, FTR, Shawn Spears, and Tully Blanchard all arrive in a private plane, and get into a limo. They make there way to the ring here together, and Tully discusses what everyone did last week to the Inner CIrcle and that he has aligned himself with biggest names in the business thirty-four years ago, and he’s going to end his career doing that again in AEW.

MJF gets on the mic next and he says that Tully called this The Pinnacle and that is an appropriate name because they are the pinnacle of the business and runs down every member of their group, he calls Wardlow the best big man in the business and the best insurance policy money can buy, he says Shawn Spears has been held down his entire career but not anymore because he’s about to be a top guy. Then he calls FTR the only grand slam tag team champions in the history of the business and the best tag team in the world today. Then he talks about himself and says he’s been on national television for over a year now and he’s already the most talked about name in the business today and he’s unstoppable in the ring and on the mic and he’s only twenty-four years old.

He says The Pinnacle will take what they want when they want and right now they want Inner Circle’s locker room so they are gonna take it. Then he speaks directly to Chris Jericho and says his catch phrase “I’m better then you, and you know it.”, and they group hug in the ring.

Segment Rating: 6.5/10

I loved this promo by MJF, he talked up The Pinnacle which I think is a pretty good name for a group. He put over every member and made it clear they are going to be the biggest group in AEW if not all of wrestling and I’m looking forward to all of it, and I hope we get the Blood and Guts match between The Pinnacle and The Inner Circle and I hope the Inner Circle sells these injuries for another week or two to really put over the beating they took to make The Pinnacle look like the stars they already are.

Jurassic Express & Bear Coutry vs. Matt Hardy, Private Party, and Butcher & Blade

This match was clearly just to book Matt Hardy’s group strong and that’s fine. Jurassic Express & Bear Country had trouble working together and they showed Bear Country eliminating Luchasaurus from the tag team battle royal at Revolution to play that up. There was a spot where Bear Country tossed Marko Stunt onto the opposing team and Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy got upset about that and there was a point where one of the members of Bear Country accidently knocked down Jungle Boy attacking the opposing team. I get it, all of it was to set up a match between Jurassic Express and Bear Country which could be a great match.

It got to a point where Luchasaurus was cleaning house and then when Marko Stunt tagged in he immediately received a Gin N’ Juice and when they were gonna go for the cover Matt asked for a tag in and even though Marko is basically dead in the ring he hits a twist of fate for the victory.

Segment Rating: 5/10

This was a fine match that sort of felt unnecessary but I get it, it sets up the riff between Jurassic Express and Bear Country, and Matt Hardy’s group gets a win. Sure all of that is fine. I just didn’t need it, I’m kind of getting sick of random 5 on 5 or 4 on 4 matches those need to stop.

Christian Finally Speaks

Dasha interviews Christian and usually I don’t cover these kinds of segments on their own but it needs to be mentioned because everything he said made sense. Dasha asks Christian why he came to AEW, and Christian says people call him a workhorse because when people work with him they get better in the ring when they work with him and Jon Moxley himself will tell you that. He prides himself in that role but he considers himself THE workhorse and he plans to prove it to the fans. He talks about his goal to challenge for the championship and that he’s happy he got to meet Omega in the ring last week, and he knows he has to earn his opportunity to face him but he will and that Omega’s title run is on borrowed time. Then he says he’s in AEW for one reason to cement his legacy, and he vows to out work everyone.

Segment Rating: 6.5/10

I loved this segment, everything Christian had to say was straight to the point and it deserved to be highlighted as such. Christian knows he needs to work hard, he hasn’t had a singles in seven years he can’t just jump the line and challenge Kenny, and he’s prepared to prove it. I love that because that’s how it should be done.

Jon Moxley & Eddie Kingston vs. The Good Brothers

Earlier in the night Moxley and Kingston had another great backstage promo together which was absolutely perfect, they discussed Gallows and Anderson’s Talk N’ Shop-a-Mania and made fun of them for that and questioned whether they could talk about Bullet Club and Kingston brings up the too sweet and how there was a group who did that on TNT a few years ago, It was a great promo before the match.

So as Kingston is making his entrance Gallows and Anderson attack him and Moxley comes out with his shoulder taped up to make the save. This entire match was a brawl and Kingston and Moxley working from behind made sense not just because of the attack prior to the match but with Mox and Kingston selling injuries through out. I love Moxley selling no matter what, that’s the way it should be, and him becoming a house of fire but it winding down because the injuries come into play I love that. I hated Moxley suicide dive because it looked like the cheap WWE version where he just pushes with his hands and that always looks bad. Again most of this match is just a big brawl and Moxley and Kingston are great at that, towards the end Good Brothers go for the Magic Killer on Mox and Kingston makes the save, taking Gallows out giving Moxley the chance to get a roll up victory.

Post match, Gallows and Anderson immediately attack Moxley and Omega arrogantly makes his way to the ring and sits down taunting Moxley. Kingston tries to make the save but he is beat up as well. They put Kingston’s leg in between a chair and stomp on it, then when Kingston is down and out being check by the doctors. They put the chair around the neck of Moxley and as they go to stomp on it the Young Bucks come out to stop it.

Earlier in the night Young Bucks had a confrontation with Don Callis and Callis said that Omega is there best friend and he’d really like to see the old Bullet Club version of the Young Bucks. They stop Omega and Good Brothers from stomping on the chair and they can’t believe the Young Bucks would stop them and they throw up the too sweet to show they are all on the same page, but the Young Bucks refuse and walk out and Omega is mad about this and points at them and the Young Bucks walk out to end the segment.

Segment Rating: 6.25/10

All of this was very good, The Elite story continues to unfold, the will they-won’t they with the Young Bucks turning or joining Kenny and The Good Brothers, hasn’t gotten annoying yet but it will if this is what happens over and over. I was curious for a while why it took so long for the Bucks to get involved in all these attacks. The build here has been too slow but it is starting to pick up. Moxley and Kingston are great as a team and I’m fine with them working in the tag division for the time being even if they got a tag title run down the line would be cool, not now but it will probably get to that eventually and that’s fine. As this continues to build with the IMPACT stuff I wonder when Rich Swann will appear for AEW or when Moxley, Kingston and/or the Young Bucks will show up in IMPACT because all this stuff has been great.

Sting and Darby Interview/Archer and Cage Have Things to Say

So last week I didn’t discuss the Sting interview because there was nothing of substance to talk about but these weekly interviews with Sting need to stop. There was a few things that came out of this one though. Darby got on the mic and discussed how he’s only defended the TNT Championship three times since winning it and he thinks that is a joke because he wants to be a fighting champion and now that he’s moved on from Team Taz he wants to honor the greatest champion and challenge a member of the Dark Order.

Lance Archer and Jake Roberts come out and Lance says things are about to change, and he calls himself the most dangerous man on the planet, and Darby is an “indy-riffic” wrestler. Jake said something that didn’t make sense at all and puzzled a lot so it’s not even worth discussing. Then Team Taz interrupts and Taz had something to say but Brian Cage takes the mic. He says he doesn’t need Taz to speak for him tonight because he has something to say. He says after their battle at Revolution that Sting has earned his respect and that Starks was wrong with or without the bat he’s still an icon. Taz and all of Team Taz don’t get why Cage said what he said and they are confused and angry and they all walk away after Cage left before them to end the segment.

Also later in the night Alex Marvez interviewed the Dark Order to find out who will be challenging Darby next week, Brodie Jr. popped up and said he was but Evil Uno says he’s only nine so he should probably wait a decade. Then Uno suggests John Silver, so it will be Darby Allin versus John Silver next week for the TNT Championship.

Segment Rating: 5.25/10

I liked this for Darby’s promo and for Cage’s promo, also the Dark Order segment was fine. Everything else was not needed. I mentioned how these Sting promos need to stop and it’s true there’s no reason at all for them to do that every single week, I’m tired of it. As for Cage, I think it’s fine that he’s showing respect for Sting he’s a legend etc. but there is no reason why he can’t do that but remain a heel because I don’t know if it’s the right time for Cage to leave Team Taz and be on his own. Team Taz’s reaction to his promo was kind of annoying and I can’t figure out why they are going down this road now.

Lights Out Match: Britt Baker vs. Thunder Rosa

Where do I begin with this match, this is not only the best women’s match in the history of AEW, but it’s one of the best women’s matches that I’ve seen in the past few years. I can’t even express how much I love this match. So much that it’s worth a re-watch by literally everyone, I’d show this match to someone who doesn’t understand hardcore wrestling, I’d show this match to someone who doesn’t understand women’s wrestling, I’d show this to someone who doesn’t understand wrestling as a whole. It is so good and proved to me that both of these women are stars passed anyone could even imagine. It was bloody, it was gruesome, it was everything I wanted.

The spots throughout got bigger and better, and they told a story throughout as well. Spears on the ramp, stomps on the stairs. Both women got busted open, especially Britt. The ring gets filled with chairs and after a commercial Baker hits Rosa with a superplex on top of the big pile of chairs. A ladder comes into play and they Rosa slams Bakers face into it and then dropkicks her into it hard causing Baker to be busted open. Back in the ring Rosa picks up a bloody Britt and hits a Death Valley Driver on top of the ladder which is leaned over the ropes.

Britt fights back after that near fall and hits another curb stomp on Rosa this time on to the pile of chairs for a near fall of her own. Baker then goes to the floor to get the glove she uses to apply the lock jaw but also comes up with a big bag, this bag is filled with thumbtacks and she places them in the ring. They are fighting back and forth around the thumbtacks and then Rebel comes in to help Britt and Rosa fights her off by grabbing the crutch she had and hits her with then sends her through a table that was set up earlier at ringside.

Baker tries to capitalize but Rosa fights her off and eventually hits a powerbomb on Baker into the thumbtacks, Rosa goes for a pin but Britt kicks out amazingly. Britt then gets back up and hits a big bicycle kick, and locks in the lock jaw, but Rosa turns it around by rolling Britt into the thumbtacks. So Rosa turns it around by going for the Thunder Driver on the apron landing through a table on the outside to get the pinfall victory.

Segment Rating: 9/10

I can’t say enough about how good this match is and if you didn’t realize how good Britt Baker or Thunder Rosa were before this match now you know. Nobody should ever look at Britt Baker as “Adam Cole’s Girlfriend” anymore, she is a wrestler on her own now and she’s amazing at it. Thunder Rosa is a badass who only gets better every time she enters a ring. I love both of these ladies as performers and I can’t wait to see what they both do next, and just a note we saw the champion, Hikaru Shida watching this match and after that performance I wouldn’t be surprised if both ladies are in the title picture after this. It’s time for Britt to take her rightful place as the champion.

Remarkable Wrestler of the Week

So this should be pretty obvious the Remarkable wrestler or wrestlers of the week are Britt Baker and Thunder Rosa both.

These two ladies did something huge tonight, they not only told a story and put on a show, they proved that they can be just as good if not better then the men and I don’t wanna hear anyone say a bad word about either one of them ever again because they are both going places and are amazing at what they do.

Overall

There was so much good on this show and it might go down as one of the best episodes of Dynamite ever simply for that main event. Overall I give it a 6.1 out of 10. We established a new group with a very good name. The Elite story rolls on and I can’t wait to see what happens next. Darby is going to be a fighting champion moving forward as he should be. So much good that out weighed the bad and there wasn’t a lot of bad at all, just some questionable things. We did however possibly get the best main event on TNT ever.
