#MouthingOff with MikeJC: Dynamite Weekly. Wednesday March 24th #AEWDynamite Ep.77 (@MikeJC821)

Welcome, everyone to the latest edition of #MouthingOff (with MikeJC): Dynamite Weekly, the weekly review feature on AEW Dynamite here on SLTDWrestling.com. I will be giving my thoughts and opinions on all the highlights of the show as well as giving the “Remarkable Wrestler” of the week. So here are the highlights of the Wednesday, March 24th edition of AEW Dynamite.

Kenny Omega vs. Matt Sydal

Dynamite kicked off with a very good match where if Matt Sydal won then he would receive the next shot at the AEW World Championship. This match was all action, and I enjoyed it from the get go. You could argue that Matt Sydal got too much offense here, but they acknowledged how he’s been on a big roll as a singles competitor mainly winning on Dark, and your probably wouldn’t know that if you don’t have time to watch Dark since it’s over two hours long and has no substance and it very, very predictable.

Sydal had an answer for everything that Omega threw at him throughout the match, they also acknowledged the history between the two, which is good because they aren’t insulting my intelligence by saying they never faced before because it didn’t take place in this company. Both men hit some great looking offense throughout as well and Sydal especially used his agility to his advantage. I loved the Poisoned Rana reversal of the One-Winged Angel. Omega was viscous when he connected with every V-Trigger, and after Sydal took to long to set up the shooting star press Omega would take advantage and eventually hit the One-Winged Angel for the victory. Both guys put on a hell of a performance this was a great opener.

Segment Rating: 6.25/10

I enjoyed this match a lot and it was a good little story of Sydal being on a roll and earning an opportunity to face the champion and he gave Omega a hell of a fight but it wasn’t enough. Omega proved once again why he is the best in the world right now and why nobody can match him in the ring.

Britt Baker Interview

Before this we see highlights of the lights out match from last week and Thunder Rosa’s comments after the match, where she discussed what the match meant for women’s wrestling and to her.

Britt would come out to be interviewed by Tony Schiavone and she would discuss how everyone is giving her praise for last week but they should have been doing that from the beginning. She talks about how Mick Foley gave her a thumbs up, and says that it took Mick Foley twenty years to become a hardcore legend and she did it in one night. Then she says that Tony Khan has been looking everywhere for legends, when he had one standing right under his nose. She then continues by saying she not only made history last week but she put AEW on the map and those three letters come second to the most epic three letters in all of pro wrestling, D-M-D.

Segment Rating: 6/10

I loved this promo, she came off as a huge star here, and said a lot of things that quite frankly are true about AEW bringing in legends when she should be focused on more. I hope she continues to rise and as I’ve mentioned she should be the next AEW Women’s Champion and nobody else.

Trios Match: The Pinnacle (FTR & Shawn Spears) vs. The Varsity Blonds & Dante Martin

This was a good first match for The Pinnacle as a group and the younger opposing team put up a fight which is good and Brian Pillman Jr. had a great sequence of moves and a combination of super kicks early and when the face team had control and were going to dive out the ring they saw the numbers on the outside of the ring they slowed up which was a good touch. The Blonds and Martin kept the control until after the last sequence of the match.

Dax Harwood hit a devastating looking brainbuster on Dante Martin, and after Cash tagged in and kept control for his team, Shawn Spears tagged in and hit the C4 for the victory. After the match, The Pinnacle all enter the ring and Wardlow attacks Pillman after the match, and then The Pinnacle as a group cut a promo, Cash says The Pinnacle is a family and that he doesn’t have a wife and kids like these guys they are that to him. Dax gets on the mic and addresses Santana and Ortiz, and says the marquee in AEW says pro wrestling and if they want to find out where they stand then they would face them.

Then MJF gets on the mic and addresses Chris Jericho, he says Jericho used to break the walls down but now he just breaks whatever chair he sits in. He dares Jericho to grab the boys and come out here right now, but he knows they won’t because they are terrified.

Tony Schiavone cuts in and says MJF knows that Inner Circle is hurt and they aren’t here. They intimidate Schiavone who wants to say something but he says never mind when they get in his face. Then he says “When you’re in The Pinnacle, you’re always on top.”

Segment Rating: 6.25/10

I love the old school feel to The Pinnacle, I love they are basically the new Horsemen down to the music which is very similar to the Horsemen music, it’s all great, and that catch phrase at the end is perfect. I love everything about this The Pinnacle is going to be THE group for years to come and I can’t wait.

QT Marshall Explanation

So Tony Schiavone is out again to interview QT Marshall and wants to know what’s been going on between QT and the Nightmare Family. QT says being Cody’s friend has its benefits. He points out his wife in the crowd (kind of makes you wonder if she existed before the Allie stuff considering Allie is also married and we know that), he talks about things that he accomplished since the beginning of AEW and then says there’s a bunch of things that the fans don’t see, like him getting Cody his coffee and making sure it’s hot, and making sure his t-shirts are right.

He talks about how Cody’s wife works here and gets to do everything with him while QT’s wife has to stay at home alone. He says no matter what he does there will always be a footnote that says “Cody’s Friend” and the crowd chants “Cody’s Friend” at him. He said he can’t control what AEW executives do but he can control what he does, and he’s not going to take meaningless bumps anymore, and then Cody comes out with a headset on and his arm in a sling.

He says his heart isn’t in this but he knows where it’s going, he says he will accommodate him and the Nightmare Family. He says QT can have his exhibition with Cody and Arn is going to be the referee. However, if he puts on the figure four he will relinquish it, if he has him set up for the Cross Rhodes he’s not going to follow through, he says he considers QT to be one of his best friends and tells the fans not to chant that even though it’s hilarious and they shake hands.

Segment Rating: 3.5/10

I hated this and I’ll explain why, I just don’t care about it, at all. I don’t care about how QT feels about basically being Cody’s friend who does things for him. I don’t care to see them work together, exhibition or not. I don’t care about the probability of this “exhibition” turning into a thing where QT probably hurts Cody worse, because this is clearly a Sammartino/Zbyszko thing but QT is not a young star looking for his chance. Nobody wants this, I wanted Cody to continue feuding with Penta. This is a waste of time, this is not entertaining.

Trios Match: The Young Bucks & Brandon Cutler vs. The Lucha Bros. & Laredo Kid

This was your typical Young Bucks and Lucha Bros match just with Brandon Cutler and Laredo Kid. There’s nothing wrong with that but there’s nothing that you haven’t seen between these two teams. It’s always amazing and that’s fine but they don’t really tell a story here except lets have a match with a bunch of flips. Let me reiterate that there’s nothing wrong with that. Brandon Cutler very much tried and somewhat succeeded to keep up with everyone because it’s very clear he isn’t on the same level as everyone else. He hit a big springboard splash early in the match that looked good and that was the most of his highlights.

Laredo Kid came off as the star of the match which seems to happen every time he appears for AEW. The Young Bucks and the Lucha Bros. played the hits as they do. Matt Jackson looked to hurt his arm catching Laredo Kid for a moonsault on the outside but he finished the match and seemed fine later. There was a great spot where Laredo Kid springs in for DDT but Matt catches him into a locomotive Northern Lights Suplex and when Penta tried to stop the third he gave one to both of them. The Young Bucks then hit Risky Business on Laredo Kid and tag in Cutler for a follow up springboard elbow drop, Penta breaks up the pin that followed and then Laredo Kid hits a Spanish Fly on Cutler for the pinfall victory.

After the match, Kenny Omega came out and attack Laredo Kid and The Young Bucks are puzzled about what’s happening. Kenny gets on the mic, and talks about the first Fyter Fest where they teamed up to face the Lucha Bros. and Laredo Kid and that he can’t believe they replaced him with Brandon Cutler of all people, he continues by saying that he didn’t chose AEW, he chose The Young Bucks, when he could have stayed where he was, where he was loved by everyone and was on top of the world, or taken the money and gone to New York, but he chose them but for whatever reason they didn’t choose him back. He says Don Callis can be abrasive but he cares about Kenny, and he’s giving the Bucks one more chance to join him. Kenny throws up the Too Sweet, and Omega continues by saying that he may not agree with everything Don has to say but for the Bucks to choose Cutler over him is crazy. He says this is their last chance and they walk out and turn their back on Kenny and leave.

Then Kenny gets superkicks in the back of the head from the Lucha Bros. and they give him a Diving Stomp-Package Piledriver combo. Don Callis is trying to get the Young Bucks and Cutler to help but they leave and he hides behind the ref, and The Good Brothers come out to help after The Lucha Bros. and Laredo Kid leave, and Kenny gets up bleeding from the mouth and puts up a thumbs up.

Segment Rating: 5.75/10

The match was very good but as I’ve said I’ve seen it before. The thing that stuck out to me was the segment after the match. I’m not convinced, that The Young Bucks truly are done with Kenny. I think this is going to be a swerve down the line. The Bucks and The Good Brothers will have their match but The Young Bucks will eventually reveal their true colors and join Kenny. I don’t think the Young Bucks playing off that Kenny has “gone too far” and this isn’t for them is that believable just because they are executives now. The Young Bucks need a heel turn bad and this is the perfect way to do it. Of course the story with The Elite continues and more twists and turns continue to come up and I’m still very intrigued where it goes. There’s plans in place for The Young Bucks next two title matches and maybe one of those matches or something after those two matches will start the seeds to be planted.

Nyla Rose vs. Tay Conti

This was a much better match then the one that took place in the tournament between these two. Nyla is in control for the first few minutes of the match, but Conti turns it around mid way through and hits a lot of big flurry of kicks and knee strikes. Nyla is got her face over the ropes and Conti goes to the top for a big knee strike and gets a near fall.

Rose fights back after a DDT attempt from Conti and hits a kick of her own. Nyla goes for the Beast Bomb, but Conti fights it off and hits another knee strike in the corner and follows it up with the Hammerlock DDT for the pinfall victory.

After the match Vickie Guerrero grabs Conti’s leg and when she kicks her off and Nyla gets back up, but Hikaru Shida makes the save with a kendo stick shot, then The Bunny comes out and attacks Shida as they double team her. Matt Hardy, Butcher and Blade are on the stage and Hardy is on the mic and says that the recently tournament wasn’t fair because The Bunny wasn’t in it. He promises that his clients will no longer get a raw deal in AEW.

Segment Rating: 5.5/10

As I mentioned this was a much better match then the last time these two faced and I love how Conti has been getting her chance to shine, being the number one ranked in the division she was the right person to win here. She’s improved tremendously since coming to AEW and has earned the spot she’s in now and I assume she’ll be getting a title opportunity soon. The addition of The Bunny in the division is a good thing too and hope she’s improved in the ring as well. This is the kind of thing this women’s division has needed for while. So all of this is good and a step in the right direction.

TNT Championship: Darby Allin (c) vs. John Silver

This was one hell of a match. Silver came out with the entire Dark Order in his corner and Darby came out alone. Commentary mentioned that Sting would make his presence known if it calls for it. This match built perfectly they started slow but when they got to the big spots it never slows down. At one point they are fighting outside and Silver ends up over the barricade into the crowd. Alex Reynolds helps him up and the Dark Order is cheering him on, Darby back in the ring goes for a suicide dive and Alan “5” Angels takes it for him and shoves Silver out of the way. This brings out Sting who isn’t having that and he warns the Dark Order by pointing at them with his bat.

Back in the ring and this is where the offense really starts to pick up, Silver is hitting multiple strikes, and Darby turns it into a roll up for a near fall. Back up and Darby goes for Stundog Millionaire but Silver caught him into the Queen Slayer which he has on for quite some time and at one point he broke the hold hit him some more and re applied it but Darby fought out of it. I love this sequence of moves it was very smooth and both guys looked great here.

Later they are fighting on the top rope, Silver is setting up for a superplex but Darby fights him off then hits a Coffin Drop from the top rope to the outside on top of the entire Dark Order on the outside. Back in the ring Silver cuts Darby off again and puts him up top and hits a huge avalanche spinning rack bomb that launches Darby and it should have been over but Silver lean too much into the pin and Darby’s foot just ended up on the rope.

Silver is frustrated now and tries to go for a sit-out powerbomb as a homage to Brodie Lee but Darby turns it into a Code Red for a the surprise pinfall victory.

Post match Sting enters the ring and help Silver up and gives him props for the match, and Darby puts out his fist for a fist bump and Silver obliges. Then Matt Hardy pulls Darby out of the ring and starts attacking him and the Butcher, The Blade, and Private Party start brawling with the Dark Order, Tay Conti also comes back out and attacks Bunny again as the brawl ends the show.

Segment Rating: 7/10

The rating is one-hundred percent for the match. I absolutely loved this match and the way it built and just got better over time and you could tell the chemistry there between the two. It was soo good. As for the brawl after I didn’t need it at all. I get Matt Hardy has this grudge with the Dark Order and this being a way for Matt be Darby’s next challenger works but all of this kind of felt unneeded. Page was not involved here which was puzzling but he’s on good terms with Dark Order right now but not an official member yet but that will continue to build as expected.

Remarkable Wrestler of the Week

For this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite the Remarkable Wrestler of the Week is, John Silver.

There’s been a recent theme here that people who lose are getting this award and the soul reason is because usually the loser impresses me the most in these pressure situations and that’s exactly what John Silver did here. I already knew how good he was but this cemented how good he is even in a loss but he told a story on his own trying to win this for The Dark Order and the memory of Brodie Lee, and for Anna Jay whose out injured. That is why Silver gets the RWOW.

Overall

There was really good wrestling on this show again as there usually is a few things I didn’t love but didn’t hate and one particular thing I hated a lot, but a good show none the less, overall I give this a show a 5.75 out of 10. The promos were great too especially Britt Baker and The Pinnacle. The stories that are ongoing continue to grow and get more interesting so we’ll see where everything goes and should be very exciting.
