#MouthingOff with MikeJC: Dynamite Weekly, Wednesday August 11th #AEWDynamite Ep.97 (@MikeJC821)

Welcome everyone to the latest edition of #MouthingOff (with MikeJC): Dynamite Weekly, the weekly review feature on AEW Dynamite here on SLTDWrestling.com. I will be giving my thoughts and opinions on all the highlights of the show as well as giving the “Remarkable Wrestler” of the week. So here are the highlights of the Wednesday, August 11th edition of AEW Dynamite.

Trios Match: The Elite (Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks) vs. Dante Martin & The Sydal Brothers

Dynamite kicks of with this trios match that was your typical Elite versus “enter random team that doesn’t stand a chance” match. Now this was a great match as we all knew it would be, my gripe is that every single time Kenny and The Young Bucks have these matches usually as the opener like this one was they give way, way too much to their opponents. This match shouldn’t be over fifteen minutes this one one was almost twenty minutes. This match should have been under ten minutes with Dante Martin doing what he did just on a shorter scale. Omega and the Bucks shouldn’t be standing there for more then ten seconds waiting for the Sydals to setup Dante Martin’s dive. It’s okay for this team of the Sydal Brothers and Dante Martin to be jobbed here and that is my only gripe despite how long winded it might sound.

Dante Martin was showcased in this match and had an answer for everything Kenny threw at him late flipping out of snap dragons and landing on his feet when he was hooked in for the One Winged Angel and he did a lot of great athletic stuff in there. The Sydal Brothers had a great submission combination with a grounded Cobra Clutch and Muta Lock. The Elite would overwhelm Dante Martin after Kenny hit multiple V-Triggers he’d follow it up by hitting the One Winged Angel then The Bucks would dispose of the Sydal Brothers by super kicking them and Kenny and the Bucks would all three hit a BTE V-Trigger combo for the pinfall victory.

After the match Christian Cage would come out interrupting Don Callis and Callis would ask what Christian is doing here when there’s ten of them in the ring and only one of him, which brings out Jurassic Express. After a commercial everyone is in the ring and Callis wants to know why Christian is here if the title match is in three weeks at All Out because they certainly aren’t going to wrestle here in Pittsburgh. Christian cuts off Callis and calls him a carney POS, and says since their in Pittsburgh he should of said carney jagoff. Christian says that he had a meeting with Tony Khan and Impact rep Scott D’Amore was there too and Kenny has more then one championship and Kenny is going to be working in Pittsburgh on Friday, when he faces Christian for the Impact World Championship. Then as they go to leave Jungle Boy interrupts and says they are facing the Young Bucks next week for the tag titles. Also there was a very loud CM Punk chant during this segment when Callis was addressing Christian.

Segment Rating: 6.25/10

I mentioned last week Christian shouldn’t get his title shot at All Out and I stand by that, and I don’t agree with Christian facing Kenny for the Impact title before the AEW title because surely that match is going to have some kind of shenanigans which hurts Christian and not Kenny before the AEW title match and that’s not good. Jurassic Express getting tag title shots next week is great, why that match isn’t happening at All Out is surprising to me but maybe something bigger is planned for the Bucks at that show. Dante Martin has a very bright future alongside his brother, Darius, who surely will be back soon they are going to be champions in a few years for sure.

Daniel Garcia vs. Darby Allin

This was another great showcase match for Daniel Garcia, the chemistry he has with 2.0 as a trio with 2.0’s great character’s bouncing off of Garcia’s serious nature is a great combination and Garcia showcased his wrestling ability in this match. He’s a stellar technical wrestler and he used that to ground Darby. Darby would eventually fire up and hit an over the shoulder stunner and follow it up with a Coffin Drop for the victory.

After the match 2.0 would start a brawl by attacking Darby after the match but Sting would help and fight both guys up the ramp and 2.0 and Garcia would eventually retreat and it’s announced later that 2.0 will face Darby and Sting next week in a Tornado Tag match.

Segment Rating: 5.75/10

AEW needs to sign this trio of Garcia and 2.0 they are a great group that could be big in AEW one day they are that good. Next week Sting is wrestling on Dynamite I believe for the first time if not it’s got to be his second Dynamite match because Sting only needs to wrestle when it’s necessary, what happened after this match made it necessary so should be very interesting what’s next for Darby after this.

Orange Cassidy, Chuck Taylor & Wheeler Yuta vs. Matt Hardy & Private Party

This match was all over the place. Wheeler Yuta looked good again, so did Orange Cassidy as per usual. My problem with this match is Matt Hardy doesn’t jell well with any of his opponents lately and the constant interference in this match made it very hard for me to get into this one. Every single member of HFO was outside except Butcher who hasn’t been present recently and it was just a mess, Nyla Rose even came out to shove Statlander because of their match later. This was a lot and Private Party, Cassidy and Yuta, even Chuck Taylor did their best to try make it something. I just didn’t love it. Private Party had hit the Gin and Juice on Yuta but Orange Cassidy broke it up and hit a bunch of Orange Punches but Matt Hardy disposed of him and hit a Twist of Fate on Yuta to secure the victory.

Segment Rating: 4.5/10

HFO doesn’t do it for me. I don’t know what it is, it just feels like Matt Hardy literally using three tag teams to help him win random matches with no payoff and that’s what this felt like. AEW needs to sign Yuta keep him exclusively on Elevation when the time is right because he’s a TNT Champion in the making. I just don’t know what is going on here and I don’t know if I care.

Nyla Rose vs. Kris Statlander

Statlander came out selling her stomach after being shoved into the apron by Nyla in the previous match. I loved the spot where Statlander was draped over the top rope setting up or Nyla’s knee drop and she got out of it by walking on her hands and then Nyla thwarted it by hitting a spear on Statlander while walking on her hands. There was a horrible spot that I hate where Vickie Guerrero screamed in Orange Cassidy’s face really loud and it sucked a lot. Statlander is one of my favorite’s in this division she has so much potential and her versus Britt when it happens for the belt will be a great match. Statlander got the win, after hitting the Area 451 for the victory.

Segment Rating: 5/10

I’m over Nyla Rose and if she had won this I would hate this a lot. Statlander is great and as I mentioned she is so freaking good and I can’t wait to see Stat face Britt down the line and she is a future champion.

Impact World Tag Team Championship: Dark Order’s Evil Uno & Stu Grayson vs. The Good Brothers

Stu Grayson stole the show once again, he is one of the most underrated workers and wrestlers in the entire company and he showcased it again. I loved the touch they added to the story of Dark Order being at odds about Adam Page, everyone else wanted to help Page after he asked for space and Grayson & Uno were the ones that said we need to give him his space. They made a point of that by not having all of Dark Order out for this match, it’s attention to detail that I love. Evil Uno is looking lean and better then he ever has in AEW and they are not hurt by losing here. It continues to add to the Hangman and Dark Order stuff. Good Brothers looked good here as they always do, they did what they do all the time take advantage of shady tactics. Kazarian came out during the match and beat up Brandon Cutler and dragged him to the back. The Good Brothers won when they countered Grayson and Uno’s finisher by distracting the ref and then hitting Grayson with the Magic Killer for the win.

Segment Rating: 6/10

No surprise who won here and it’s about time we saw an Impact championship match on an AEW show get everything out of this partnership. Good match both teams looked good and Stu Grayson shined again. I love all the Dark Order and Hangman stuff and all the subtleties they add to the story here without Adam Page even being here, all of it great and I love not knowing where the best story in all of wrestling is going.

The Apology

So for weeks, Tony Schiavone has been wanting for an apology from QT Marshall for pouring a protein shake on Tony’s head. Three weeks passed and we got this, QT said he’s not going to apologize for what he did and instead he wants an apology from Tony. Tony refuses so QT orders Nick Comoroto to grab Tony’s son from the front row. So they do and then QT says he wants an apology or they are going to hurt his son, and Tony apologizes and QT said he doesn’t accept it and gives Tony’s son a Diamond Cutter. This brings out Paul Wight, who slowly makes his way down to the ring and QT shoves Aaron Solo into Wight who gives Solo a chokeslam to end the segment.

Segment Rating: 2/10

I absolutely hated this for multiple reasons. First reason I still don’t and probably never will care about QT Marshall, this isn’t helping Aaron Solo and Nick Comoroto, it’s bad and the fact this took place on Dynamite and not Elevation is ridiculous, not a single person should care about this. If you want to get Paul Wight in the ring, this isn’t it. Will they use this to set up Wight finally having a match with Shaquille O’Neal? Maybe but regardless of that this isn’t good and I almost didn’t include it in the review but it took up considerable time before the main event so yeah hear we are.

Chris Jericho vs. Wardlow

So earlier in the night MJF cut a promo while eating an apple stating that Wardlow is going to take care of him tonight and prove how he will always be better then Jericho and Jericho knows it, and Wardlow makes a comment about how Jericho doesn’t stand a chance and MJF says “how you beat Cody” and then he gives the apple to Wardlow and walks off.

The match was what it was, Wardlow was in control for majority of the match and commentary mentions how during the commercial break, Wardlow hit Jericho with somewhere between eight to ten powerbombs. Jericho tries to fire back but Wardlow hits the F-10 and instead of going for the cover, he goes for the knee he does in the corner and Jericho fights it off and locks in the Walls of Jericho but MJF rakes Jericho’s eyes and then he tries to go in the ring and give Wardlow the diamond ring to use the ref sees and bans him from ringside. Jericho then uses his bat to the head of Wardlow when the ref isn’t looking and hits the Judas Effect to get the victory.

After the match, Shawn Spears attacks Jericho but Sammy Guevara makes the save and Wardlow helps with him then MJF enters the ring and puts the armbar on Jericho which then brings out Jake Hager and The Pinnacle leaves the ring. MJF then gets on the mic to discuss their match next week. He says that Jericho won’t be able to get the fans behind him because he can’t come out to his music next week and he can’t use the Judas Effect at all and if he does he automatically loses.

Segment Rating 5.25/10

I didn’t care for this, it was fine but I just didn’t need it. There’s so much more they could have done here and same can be said about the last match with MJF. I thought that match was taking place at All Out and they said it’s taking place next week. To say Jericho can’t win without the Judas Effect is a ridiculous “stack the deck” against Jericho thing because whenever they do this stuff it doesn’t make sense because there’s other ways for Jericho to win and we know that for a fact. Also not letting him come out to his music is just to get the fans to sing him out which we all know is going to happen and I don’t know if I care about that at all. Part of me thinks they are gonna do some kind of screwy finish where Jericho wins which forces MJF to want another match at All Out where Jericho has to put his career on the line or something in that in that realm. Putting Wardlow in this spot was a bad idea because all he does is lose when it matters and that’s not good for him. Sure eventually he will turn on MJF down the line but when that happens it needs to matter and if it happened next week it wouldn’t because he doesn’t win singles matches.

Remarkable Wrestler of the Week

For this episode of AEW Dynamite, the Remarkable Wrestler of the week is, is Dante Martin.

Dante Martin was on fire in his performance tonight, he is the future of this business and at only twenty years old right now he has so much time ahead of him to get even better but tonight he put on a show even in a loss and that’s why he gets the RWOW this week.

Overall

This was kind of an up and down episode of AEW Dynamite not bad at all just a few misses that I didn’t care for otherwise this show does what others don’t make sense of things even when it’s bad, except that HFO match that didn’t matter at all. Overall I give this episode of Dynamite an even 5 out of 10. There was a few things on this show that didn’t get a rating because it didn’t really factor in, there was a lot of vignettes one for Red Velvet hyping her match with Britt, one for Kamille talking about her match with Leyla Hirsch, one of Miro talking defending his title against Fuego Del Sol on Friday on the first Rampage and another one for FTR versus Santana & Ortiz again. Britt Baker had homecoming segment in the ring where she was full on baby face for her hometown crowd it was an amazing sight to see and here and she called out Red Velvet for challenging her in Pittsburgh and that she doesn’t stand a chance and Red Velvet came out and attacked but they were broken up. PAC challenged Andrade El Idolo to a match and Andrade accepted for All Out, and The Young Bucks saying their match with Jurassic Express will be as easy as a layup and Luchasaurus blocking Nick and Jungle Boy hitting a dunk. Next week should be a crazy show.
