Welcome, everyone to the latest edition of #MouthingOff (with MikeJC): Dynamite Weekly, the weekly review feature on AEW Dynamite here on SLTDWrestling.com. I will be giving my thoughts and opinions on all the highlights of the show as well as giving the “Remarkable Wrestler” of the week. So here are the highlights of the Wednesday, November 18th edition of AEW Dynamite.
AEW World Tag Team Championship: The Young Bucks (c) vs. Top Flight
This was a very good opener showcasing some young up and coming talents, Top Flight. Daunte and Darius Martin, two very young guys with bright futures. They proved in this match they can hang with the best. They threw everything they had at the Young Bucks. Of course there was never any real possibility of Top Flight winning the titles here. The Young Bucks experience level was just too much for them to handle. I love seeing guys like Top Flight proving they belong and this match got them to a level they probably were ready for and I’m excited to watch them in the future.
There were times throughout the match the Young Bucks seemed frustrated with Top Flight having a ton of energy and hitting a lot of high flying offense. The finish came when the Young Bucks hit Daunte with the BTE Trigger for the pin and the win, and still the AEW World Tag Team Champions, the Young Bucks.
Post match, Jack Evans and Angelico attacked Top Flight and the Young Bucks chased them off, as the Young Bucks raised Top Flight’s hands to show respect for a well fought match.
Segment Rating: 6.5/10
I don’t know what’s next for the Young Bucks but they did a great job here giving Top Flight a chance to showcase their talents and I’m excited to see where Daunte and Darius go in the future. TH2, Evans and Angelico seem to be moving up in the division and will probably have a match with Top Flight as early as next week which is sure to be a good match.
Kip Sabian vs. Orange Cassidy
Miro is on commentary. This was a pretty good match for the most part it was back and forth early on and at first it was a paint by numbers Orange Cassidy match, hands in the pockets, sloth style, offense picks up. Jim Ross covered for Kip on a spot where he messed up a springboard by saying his feet gave out on him. Orange was outside looking at Penelope and she put her hands up for him to back off and he gave her a high ten which confused her, that was funny. The match gets more intense towards the end and there was some good reversal spots, the finish comes when Kip goes for a draping neckbreaker, Orange reversed it into a small package for a two count, then Kip gets reversed into the Mouse Trap for the pin and the win.
Following the bell Miro sprinted to the ring to attack Cassidy but The Best Friends make the save immediately to end the segment.
Segment Rating: 5/10
This feud between Best Friends and Miro and Kip apparently isn’t over, which is fine but all parties could be doing something better, as mentioned in previous weeks, Miro should 100 percent be a singles its very evident in the past he’s not a tag team wrestler at all. This match was fine, Orange wins again as he should have.
AEW World Championship Contract Signing
Earlier we get a backstage promo by Moxley and asks “How did we get here?” He talks about his Father picking him up from jail one time, and he told him “We’re the good guys” and he’s been challenged his whole life but never forgot what jis father told him. He mentions that he and Renee are having a baby and that he’s gonna go to the ring tonight shake Kenny Omega’s hand, sign thr contract and prove why he’s thr best champion in the world.
Later on Tony Schiavone is in the ring for the contract signing, and first introduces Kenny Omega, who once again has his drawn out entrance, and is dressed like a World Champion. Then Schiavone introduces Jon Moxley, but he doesn’t appear, then cameras backstage find Moxley out cold with a bloody nose, and the dcotor talking about getting him on a stretcher. Omega thinks this is an excuse and says the first time it was his elbow now it’s his nose, but he can run from him this time and tells the camera man to make sure they capture his signature.
Segment Rating: 6.5/10
I loved this segment as it made Kenny look like a star and he being skeptical of Moxley being attacked was a nice little touch, we don’t know who did it but I’m curious what it means for this feud and if the person involved is linked to Kenny or not. I can’t wait for this match for sure.
Inner Circle Slay Vegas
So from the get go this was a hangover parody it was a montage of all Inner Circles gambling and drinking. Part one saw MJF cheating at blackjack with Sammy Guevara Wardlow and Jake Hager acting as body guards and not moving at all and MJF and Jericho one upping eachother on what they wanted to drink, the eventually settle on 100 proof Everclear, which doesn’t go well for them of course.
In part two we see every member super drunk, theres an Elvis impersonator, Konnan shows up and gets them high on top of being drunk. Konnan and Jericho say they see a dragon, and it’s Vegas comedian Piff The Magic Dragon. Wardlow and Hager are now beating up random people. MJF does a toast on a roof (like The Hangover) and he wants them all to howl and they do.
Then we fast forward to them all waking up. Jericho wakes up in a bed next to the Elvis impersonator, MJF has marker all over his face and finds Guevara who discovers he got married three times, Ortiz is working out like a maniac, Santana is feeding chickens, and for some reason Jericho finds Swoggle in a diaper crying like a baby.
Jericho then appears on commentary directly after this and says the Inner Circle is better than ever and will continue to grow.
Segment Rating: 4.5/10
Once again, whatever this was supposed to be didn’t work for me, at all. It was once again, forced, once again not at all important. I don’t understand what they are trying to do here at all. The fact of the matter is all of these people are better then this, especially Jericho, and especially MJF. MJF has done nothing but get worse since the Moxley feud, what made him special isn’t there anymore, and that’s not good. Jericho has stated in the past one of the many things he likes about AEW is no handcuffs or scripts in everything he does, but what he’s been doing recently is not good. This of cours had the biggest problem of all, it had zero meaning, it was completely unnecessary.
The Blade vs. PAC
Eddie Kingston is on commentary for this match. This was a pretty good match, for the most part it was pretty much back and forth. This is PAC’s first match in eight months, not having wrestled since March 11th. There was some obvious ring rust at first but as the match picked up he got back into his groove and took control of the match. The finish came when PAC hit a shooting star press on the back of The Blade, then immediately locked on the brutalizer for the submission victory.
After the match PAC gets on the mic and addresses Eddie Kingston but he’s attacked by The Butcher. Eddie joins them in the ring and Eddie taunts PAC as The Butcher and The Blade hold PAC. Then Rey Fenix comes out to help PAC who is not happy about this and tries to protect PAC after Eddie tried to divide the Lucha Bros. lasr week. Then Penta El Zero Miedo comes out with a chair slowly and looks like he’s going to attack his brother, but he goes for Eddie. Eddie, The Butcher, and The Blade bail. The Death Triangle is back together.
Segment Rating: 6.25/10
I had a feeling, this was where this was going with the recent dissension between the Lucha Bros. and Kingston’s role in that. I’m happy Death Triangle is back together and this eas a great way to reintroduce that group that definitely fits the Lucha Bros. better for sure. I assume we’ll get a six man tag and the eventual 1-on-1 between PAC and Kingston as well as Penta versus Kingston all I expect will be great
NWA Women’s World Championship: Serena Deeb (c) vs. Thunder Rosa
This is hands down the match of the night ane nobody should be surprised. These two are two of the best women wrestlers in the world today and I truly believe that. Thunder Rosa is so crisp, calculated and aggressive, and Serena Deeb is all about precision offense and working a body part. Their styles match very well together and that made this match great. I loved all the little touches of Thunder Rosa kind of getting cocky and that coming back to bite her. Serena Deeb working on the leg early to set up the Serenity Lock later in the match.
Mid-way through the match, Rebel appears and distracts Serena and the ref Aubrey Edwards, which brings out Britt Baker who attacks Thunder Rosa, and she hits a swinging neckbreaker on Rosa on the ramp and rolls her back in, Baker runs backstage before Serena or Edwards could see. Thunder Rosa however, is able to kick out after this. The finish came after some more back and forth action, Deeb hits the the arm trapped front facebuster, for the pinfal victory, the winner and still NWA Women’s World Champion, Serena Deeb.
Post match, sees Thunder Rosa gather herself showing obvious frustration, and she hits Britt Baker who unbeknownst to everyone has made her way to the front row of the crowd. Rosa and Baker brawl and it is broken up by officials.
Segment Rating: 7.25/10
I loved everything about this match, the build of the match, Britt Baker setting up a new feud for herself which she desperately needed, Serena looking strong in victory. All of it was great. I’m excited to see where this is going obviously, and hope the AEW Women’s Championship gets more of a focus soon, Anna Jay is getting a shot at Hikaru Shida so I hope that leads to something. Thunder Rosa and Britt should be good when it happens can’t ask for a better opponent for Baker to get her to the next level in the ring.
Team Taz vs. Darby Allin & Cody Rhodes
This was a good match that did it’s job, got Team Taz the win they needed to establish them as a credible threat. Starks and Cage isolated Cody for a lot of the match, and Darby eventually got shot out of a cannon with the hot tag. It came down to Darby and Cage after w nice sequence of everyone trading signature moves. Starks speared Cody, then Darby hit a code red on Cage for a two count, Cody recovers and hits Starks with the cross rhodes. Cage would dispose of Cody with an Olympic slam.
It comes down to Darby and Cage who are fighting on the top rope, then Cage turns it into an avalanche drill claw for the pin and the win. Post match, Starks continues to beat on Darby, and Cody runs back in to stop it but Cage cuts him off. Then Will Hobbs runs out, which chases off Team Taz, Hobbs picks up the FTW title and raises it, then looks at Cody and smacks him in the face with it. Hobbs has officially joined Team Taz, as they celebrate to close the show.
Segment Rating: 6/10
As I mentioned this match did exactly what it eas supposed to, establish Team Taz. They also got bigger and stronger with the edition of Will Hobbs. I didn’t like how drawn out his joining the team was but regardless once Darby defends the title against presumably Brian Cage I want all parties involved to go their separate ways, Darby has been feuding with Team Taz for too long and it needs to end.
Remarkable Wrestler of the Week
For this episode of AEW Dynamite, the Remarkable Wrestler of the Week is, Serena Deeb.
Serena Deeb had the best showing she’s ever had on a mainstream stage, which isn’t surprising because she’s always been good but tonight she solidified how good she truly is by having the best match of the night with Thunder Rosa, and that’s why she gets the RWOW this week.
Overall
So that’s all the highlights for this episode of AEW Dynamite on November 18th, overall I give this episode a 6 out of 10. For every bad episode of Dynamite there is usually a good one that follows and this was a good one. Stories were continued, new stories started, a lot of great wrestling. The only thing I disliked was the Inner Circle parody of The Hangover and that wasn’t good or necessary.
