Welcome, everyone to the latest edition of #MouthingOff (with MikeJC): Dynamite Weekly, the weekly review feature on AEW Dynamite here on SLTDWrestling.com. I will be giving my thoughts and opinions on all the highlights of the show as well as giving the “Remarkable Wrestler” of the week. So here are the highlights of the Wednesday, November 25th edition of AEW Dynamite.
John Silver vs. “Hangman” Adam Page
This was a very good match, John Silver continues to get better and better and he proved it again in this match with Page. The story elements were there, of course you have to watch BTE to know that. Dark Order have been trying to recruit Page for almost a year ans they kind of grew a hatred for him on BTE, that was until recently. When Hangman lost to Kenny, and the Young Bucks won the tag titles, Page felt the most defeated, and continued to drink, and joined Dark Order in a “F*** Hangman” chant.
This match was the first thing that followed that, Hangman was in control early, and Silver for most part was working from behind at one point they were trading moves and the action started to pick up. Theres a great looking sequence by Silver where he hits a beautiful German suplex, followed by a superkick, followed by a brainbuster for a near fall. Once Hangman was able to capitalize and take control he hits a buck shot lariat and turns Silver inside out for a three count.
After the match the entire Dark Order (minus Brodie Lee whose been absent since losing the TNT Championship) enter the ring and Evil Uno addresses Page, tells him that they have both made mistakes in the past and then implies The Elite are a cult who don’t care about him, but the Dark Order cares about him and Page knows where to find them.
Segment Rating: 7/10
I absolutely loved this match, and loved the story of this match, its a little thing but it is going in a good direction, I want to see what this means for Hangman, how it will affect The Elite down the line, it’s all very interesting.
Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Lee Johnson
This was a quick squash match, that there isn’t a lot to talk about. Hobbs got the victory after toying with Johnson for a little before hitting a world’s strongest slam for the victory.
The story of this segment came after the match. Taz gets on the mic, and says he’s tired of management not acknowledging the FTW Championship and wants someone from management to come out and tell him why the championship doesn’t get the respect it deserves. Taz’s mic gets cut so Taz asks for Justin Roberts’ mic and tells production not to do it again, but they do. Commentary is informed that Tony Khan would like Taz to leave.
Then Cody comes out and asks Taz what he’s doing, then tells the crowd to give Taz a hand because he’s done. Cody says he got another match with himself and Darby so why is he doing this? Taz says this isn’t about that, he wants respect for the FTW Title. Cody says he will “Run it up the Flagpole.” Taz doesn’t like that and implies Cody is gonna get him fired for this. Cody then asks why Taz’s son, Hook, is training with Cody and not Taz. Taz gets offended and drops the mic, he tells Cody off mic that remark was “pathetic, and he took it too far.” Taz goes to leave and Cody signals to cut the feed when Taz turns around puts the tazmission on Cody.
Taz is run off by the Gunn Club, and commentary acknowledges that Taz’s son is there and he leaves with Taz and the FTW Title.
Segment Rating: 7.25/10
The match was what it was, but this segment that followed was great. Taz is probably the best manager in wrestling right now. He’s always been a great talker and this promo was so good because it got personal and it built, I loved it. What does another tag match accomplish? No idea i guess they are probably going to add a third to the other side to combat team Taz, but AEW has a couple of those going on (as we will talk about later.)
Top Flight vs. TH2
This was another great showcase for Top Flight who are now officially signed and it was a good follow up. They proved they can work with different styles, as for TH2, its clear to me they are going to be next for the tag titles, even though they aren’t in the rankings at all. These two teams really worked well together and I love all the high spots by both teams. Angelico would get the win after locking in the Navarro Special, for a tap out victory.
After the match, Angelico kept the submission on and Evans was kicking at Daunte. The Young Bucks make the save.
Segment Rating: 6/10
I absolutely love the Navarro Special. It is such a cool move and especially the way Angelico puts it on, its nasty its a very cool hold. I was kind of surprised TH2 got the win here. Top Flight looked good once again. I’m excited to see TH2 get their title shot down the line a lot of good here, just the usual problem with AEW, unranked people being next in line for titles, fix that please.
SCU (Frankie Kazarian & Christopher Daniels) vs. Inner Circle (Chris Jericho & Jake Hager)
All seven members of Inner Circle were out here for some reason and I dont know why that was necessary at all. I don’t care for Jake Hager at all, he is not the best partner for Jericho at all. As for this match, it was fine. It was cool to finally see Daniels and Jericho working together, I enjoyed there interactions in this match. I enjoyed the back and forth action for the most part. There was numerous times where more then one member of Inner Circle got involved in this match. The finish came when MJF hit Daniels in the face with the diamond ring and Jericho hit the Judas effect and Hager covers for the pin and the win.
After the match, Kazarian punches MJF in the mouth which provokes the entire Inner Circle to attack, which brings out Scorpio Sky with a chair, which chases off seven people for some reason.
Later on in an interview MJF questions why Kazarian would hit anyone in the face and not acknowledging he did that exact thing to Daniels with a ring on his hand. Jericho says Kazarian is gonna pay for this because he’s gonna be famous after facing Jericho next week. Also during this entire interview Hager and Wardlow were staring at eachother the whole time, I don’t know what that’s about.
Segment Rating: 5/10
A few things that are very puzzling about this, why is Jericho teaming with Hager and not Guevara who he has better chemistry with? Why is Jericho facing Kazarian next week and not MJF? Why are the referees allowing five people to accompany a team to the ring? Also why is one man with a chair chasing off seven people? As I mentioned Hager doesn’t work as Jericho’s partner, I know they want Hager to matter but unfortunately he is worst part of Inner Circle and easily the least entertaining, and definitely doesn’t look like a star at all.
I don’t get this placeholder feud either, what is Inner Circle doing now that MJF and Wardlow are in the group? Does this mean anything? I shouldn’t have this many questions, that’s a problem. The match was fine though. Jericho versus Kazarian should be fine as well.
Contract Signing Take 2: Kenny Omega & Jon Moxley
Earlier in the night, Alex Marvez is with Kenny Omega he asks Omega about the attack of Moxley last week, Omega says, A year ago almost to the day, he was recovering from injuries via Jon. He lost that match. The only difference now is that he’s seeing Mox all over magazines. The common thread that binds them is what Jon has and what Kenny doesn’t. It’s not until he gets the AEW Title until Kenny is considered the best. He requests that Jon leaves the garbage wrestling alone. Leave it his ability. Kenny almost forgot, you are a good guy and congratulations. That childhood story really tug at his heart strings. Kenny thinks Jon’s dad would get the shit beaten out of him by his own dad.
Earlier in the night Moxley walked up to Eddie Kingston and didn’t even say a word. Kingston tells him he has other things going on and didn’t attack Moxley last week, he tells Moxley he knows who did it and he has to go talk to that guy and handle it.
So Tony Schiavone is in the ring the second straight week for the contract signing and he introduces Omega. During his entrance while behind the curtian that shows his shadow, Moxley attacks Omega and they brawl into the ring and then Moxley hits the paradigm shift on the AEW World Championship. He gets on the mic and tells Omega that there’s a “Gentleman’s agreement right?” and whoever he hired to take him out did a piss poor job. He thought they squashed their beef a year ago, now Moxley is pissed off. He tells Kenny he’s gonna need everything to beat him and dig down deep to find the Kenny Omega everyone thinks he is. It was a great promo and Moxley thanks Schiavone before signing the contract.
Segment Rating: 6.5/10
There’s one tiny thing about this I don’t get but am able to look past, why did Omega have to be here is he signed the contract last week? Now I know this is nothing because the promo was great, Omega and Moxley are so good at getting you excited for a match and they did it again here. I’m super excited to watch it and hope it gets limited commercials on free TV because commercials would hurt this match a lot.
Women’s World Championship: Hikaru Shida (c) vs. Anna Jay
This was Anna Jay’s best match ever, and she’s gonna get better, she’s very young, she has loads of potential to be a star in the future. Shida made her look like a star here. The action was back and forth and she did a good job here. The finsih came after Jay asked Tay Conti for a chair but she hesitated and gave it to her but the ref took it. While the ref disposed of the chair John Silver gave her Shida’s kendo stick for a two count. She would lock on the Queen Slayer and Shida would get out of it and capitalize with a shining wizard for the pin and the win, Shida retains.
After the match, as Shida is leaving, we get the return of Abadon, who scares Shida, and takes the championship and licks it.
Segment Rating: 5.5/10
As I mentioned, this Anna Jay’s best match ever, and she’s bound to have to more good ones in the future. Now to the problem. Abadon, a great character yes, but, she hasn’t been featured on Dynamite at all since June. So she shouldn’t be anywhere near the title, at all. I said it before and I’ll say it again, Britt Baker for champion. I don’t understand this division at all. Britt Baker was ranked the entire time she was injured, now she’s not injured, she’s the most interesting character in the entire division and she’s not ranked…what?
PAC & Rey Fenix vs. The Butcher & The Blade
I was very surprised by the result of this match. It was a hell of match regardless and moved this story to the next chapter. Eddie Kingston was on commentary again here. The match was mostly back and forth and Fenix and PAC worked very well as a team. Bunny interfered numerous times as per usual. The finish came, when Eddie Kingston interfered and and knocked Fenix of the top rope and he took a neckbreaker powerbomb for the pin.
Post match, saw Eddie Kingston attack PAC and DDT him on a chair twice. He goes for a third before a surprise save is made by of all people, Lance Archer. He goes to chokeslam Kingston but he’s saved by Butcher and Blade as they bail, to close the show.
Segment Rating: 6.5/10
As I mentioned the result of this match was very surprising and I never expected Butcher & Blade to win, but PAC was protected by not taking the pin. The surprise of Archer showing up wasn’t too surprising they’ve been calling eachother out for weeks but never touched or got near eachother, ot was being built up since All Out to a point where people possibly forgot about it. What does this mean for Archer though? Is he w face now? Or just tired of Kingston and it seems like he’s helping Death Triangle when he’s just got his own intentions to shut up Kingston? We’ll see where it goes from here.
Remarkable Wrestler of the Week
For this episode of AEW Dynamite, the Remarkable Wrestler of the Week is, “Hangman” Adam Page.
Adam Page gets the RWOW for keeping me super intrigued about what he’s doing next. However it didn’t hurt he had one hell of a match either with a young talent with loads of potential, it also furthered the will he won’t he join the Dark Order all great.
Overall
So that’s all the highlights for this episode of AEW Dynamite on November 25th, overall I give this episode a 6.25 out of 10. This was a very good show for the matches and stellar promos. It’s very rare AEW has a show where both are very good this was one of those times. The only things I was very unsure about was the Inner Circle stuff and Abadon but that’s about it. Great show otherwise.
