Welcome all to my latest rant on TNA.
The latest reports on the net are saying that Hulk Hogan has officially left TNA, but whether or not he’ll turn up in the WWE has yet to be confirmed.
There has been a noticeable change on the TNA front lately. For me, the whole feel of the show is different right now. There seem to be more matches on the night for a start. Although we’ve sometimes had in-ring skits that have lasted for up to 40 minutes, the first match on the Halloween episode of Impact happened within the first 20 minutes. I know there’s still a long way to go, but it’s a move towards a much better product for the fans in general.
Let’s take a look at some of the questions about TNA just now as they prepare to head into a new era for the company.
Where is AJ?
As we should all know by now, AJ Styles walked away with the TNA World Heavyweight Championship belt two weeks ago, claiming he would defend it elsewhere. This has opened up a big can of worms for the fans. Firstly, we know that AJ has defended the title in Mexico, which can only raise the profile of the company. I’m not sure how much exposure they have in Mexico, but as far as I know, the title has never been defended outside of TNA before. With the current champion and the belt now mysteriously missing from the company, it opens up a space for Dixie to crown a new champ…
And the winner is…
Just who the new champion will be is a very hot topic among fans just now – some of whom I’ve had conversations with on Facebook. We know the 8 wrestlers in the running – Bobby Roode, James Storm, Kurt Angle, Austin Aries, Magnus (who won his spot thanks to victory in a gauntlet match last week), Samoa Joe, Jeff Hardy and Chris Sabin.
The first match took place on Impact last night (which airs in the UK on Sunday at 9pm on Challenge) when Jeff Hardy and Chris Sabin went at it in a Full Metal Mayhem match. The other matches set to take place over the coming weeks are Bobby Roode vs James Storm, Kurt Angle vs Austin Aries and Samoa Joe vs Magnus.
In my opinion, this is a very well thought out set-up, bringing old foes together to fight each other and it keeps the fans guessing about where the swerve will come from. Regardless of who makes it through to the final and wins, it’s a fair assumption that AJ Styles will return and they’ll fight each other for the right to be TNA’s “Undisputed” World Heavyweight Champion.
The mystery numbers…
As many fans have pointed out since AJ left, there was apparently a false number plate on the back of the car that he drove off in. It’s entirely possible that this was a red herring thrown in by the company just to make things interesting, but it did look like a date. The main thing is that the date doesn’t have any connection to an Impact taping or a PPV, so it could also be a dead-end, but surely TNA could’ve come up with something a little better than a seemingly hand-drawn number plate.
Face or Heel?
We all know the members of the TNA World Heavyweight Championship tournament, but who do you feel would be the right choice to go through to the finals? There’s already a babyface champion in AJ Styles and do we want another heel champion again so quickly? Of all the entrants in the tournament, only two of them are heels at the moment, so is someone about to turn? We’ll find out soon enough!
