A few weeks ago on the May 22nd 2017 episode Monday Night Raw, Enzo Amore was attacked backstage. The camera showed Big Cass walking backstage to discover Enzo laid out, which prompted medical staff to rush over to check on him, a well as bringing it to the attention of Kurt Angle.
The following week, Enzo was attacked again! This time upon seeing yet another attack, Big Cass fumed to Kurt Angle and pointed the fingers at The Revival.
Now, The Revival have been off TV for several weeks due to an injury to Dash Wilder, but eagled eyed viewers did spot them walking backstage during a Sasha Banks interview, which led many to speculate.
Big Cass was convinced that they were responsible for Enzo being assaulted, however, The Revival denied these claims and stated they wouldn’t waste their time on someone like Amore.
The week after, it was in fact Big Cass who had been jumped backstage, but upon discovering him, Enzo also found one of HIS chains amongst Cass’s beaten body, which then pointed the finger at the ‘Certified G’ himself.
Later in the night, needing a new tag team partner, Enzo was able to bring in Big Show who took Cass’s place, even helping Amore pick up the win against Gallows & Anderson. Could Big Show have been behind the attack? The list of suspects has been growing by the week, but I truly believe I know who it was.
I think the attacker is Big Cass.
This is possibly the obvious choice, but that’s not always a bad thing. My reasoning is that it’s no secret that WWE like big guys, and I think many people have known that Big Cass has a solo career ready for him, which was even tested out last summer whilst Enzo was injured. If you notice, there’s been a big change to Cass’s attitude, he’s more accusing, he’s quicker to fire off at people and he even acts more intimidating to other people such as Kurt Angle and Corey Graves.
Speaking of Corey Graves, the first week Enzo was attacked, Graves openly stated on commentary that he would, “love to shake the hand of the person who attacked Enzo”.
Here’s where it gets interesting.
The following week, Big Cass stormed out to the stage and confronted Graves, and anyone else accusing him of being Enzo’s attacker. Once Corey had explained his intent behind his comments, Big Cass seemed convinced by his apology, and then…shook his hand.
Is that a telling sign?
Backstage after Enzo had teamed with Big Show, they were confronted by Big Cass, who seemed to be fit and healthy, who questioned Big Show’s motives and whereabouts during the attacks.
To break tensions, Enzo suggested all 3 of them head out to the casino, which is funny because surely Cass would be in no state to go out to a casino, would he?
Hence the reason I think Big Cass staged his own attacking to divert the blame away from himself.
This seemingly obvious angle now has a fair few suspects.
The Revival are still on the radar, Enzo himself isn’t ruled out, the obvious choice in Big Cass, but how about a returning Braun Strowman? I don’t think Strowman being revealed as the attacker would do anything for a storyline moving forward though.
WWE obviously see Big Cass as the star and Enzo as the back seat passenger. If you’ve noticed, every time the team lose, it’s Enzo who takes the fall. Maybe they’ve been purposely doing that to give Cass motives to turn on him?
How could WWE utilise the heel turn? I would play it out where someone gets hold of the security footage (which never seems to be around when there’s backstage attacks) and shows it to the world exposing Cass as the attacker. When Enzo turned around from looking at the big screen, Cass would beat the hell out of him, fully turning heel and ending the partnership.
The Enzo/Cass feud would need to last no longer than a few weeks, before setting Big Cass off on a road to the main event (once they actually get their main title back from the guy on vacation).
I think it would be a real shame to break Enzo & Cass up, as they’re still really popular and somehow haven’t even won the Raw Tag Team Championships yet. Perhaps WWE never saw them as a team long term, which is why they wanted to create this angle leading to a split.
Cass will be a big star, once he improves his mic skills and charisma, he’ll have no trouble fitting in amongst the WWE’s best. Enzo, however, worries me.
Enzo has been booked so badly the last 6 months, and it’s really hard for fans to get behind and support someone who they know is going to lose.
I would organise some sort of trade between Raw and Smackdown, which would see one of them trading brands to keep them apart from a while, and give both a chance to shine on their own.
They really need to put in some work with Enzo though, at the moment he isn’t believable as being able to beat many people on the main roster, which is down to their booking of him.
Will we see them reform at some point? Absolutely! But WWE need to see how well Cass can do as a singles competitor, and whether or not Enzo has the personality and crowd appeal to entertain on his own.
