Wrestlemania 32 – Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal preview
For me, there are many possible outcomes to this one, with a number of contenders to win this Battle Royal.
So far announced are Kane, Social Outcasts, Tyler Breeze, Big Show, Goldust, R-Truth, Jack Swagger, Fandango and more.
Let’s take a look at some realistic potential winners of this match.
Big Show
Yes, he won the battle royal last year, and what would winning it two years in a row prove? In fact, I can’t remember anything memorable he’s actually done on WWE tv since last Wrestlemania (correct me if I’m wrong). But the only thing going in his favour is that when you think of giants, you think of Big Show. He deserves the utmost respect for all his accomplishments in WWE during his lengthy career, and some would say it’s time to move him on, but I think as long as there’s a place for him on the roster, he’s a valuable asset.
Possibility of him winning is quite high, especially when you consider he’s been the main focus of the build up to the match itself.
Mark Henry
Another big guy who’s always one to look out for in battle royals is Mark Henry, although at this stage you have to question the logistics of Henry winning as he’s been so inconsistent on WWE television over the past few years it’d be easy to forget whether he’s currently a heel or a babyface. If Henry were to win then I could easily see one last run for him before ultimately retiring sometime within the next year. This could be the perfect way to wind down his wrestling career.
Braun Strowman
He’s been a hot favourite to win this one for a while now, and that’s because it’s no secret WWE higher ups have a long term vision for Strowman. Obviously the creative plans change like the weather over here in England (that’s a hell of a lot!) so you never know where Braun could be this time next year, but if they want to make him look like a credible monster, winning this would really give him the push in the right direction. From winning this battle royal, Strowman could then target the Intercontinental Title and potentially even break away from the Wyatt Family in the near future.
Kane
Again, similar to Mark Henry, rumours of his impending retirement would have this as possibly his last major role within WWE, and what a way to go out as being listed as one of the winners of this prestigious award. Kane is one of the most familiar names and faces within pro wrestling, so to be able to add this to his long list of career accomplishments would be a great way to begin to slow down his career.
Kane is a very well respected icon within the business, and nobody would begrdudge ‘The Big Red Machine’ the honour of winning this match. You do have to wonder what this would do for him storyline wise though, and if winning this match would have any impact on his character or development within the next few months.
My Prediction: Bray Wyatt
It’s sad that Wyatt is built up so brilliantly ahead of his feuds, only to fall to his opponent every time. I fear the character of Bray is losing momentum, credibility and the draw power he once had. It would be a great way to get the Wyatt Family back into the thick of things again if they were to spend the entire Battle Royal fighting for their leader, eliminating anyone possible and making some huge statements.
I would book the finish as the final participants being Wyatt, Rowan, Strowman, Harper, Big Show, Kane and Mark Henry. Have the Wyatt Family eliminating Show, Kane and Henry, to leave them as the final 4 in the ring, then as a sign of solidarity and respect for their leader, Strowman, Rowan and Harper all exit the ring leaving Bray as the sole survivor.
This finish would make Bray and the Wyatt Family relevant again and the starting basis for the genuine push that he’s deserved for all the hard work he’s invested into his gimmick.
It’s a rarity in wrestling these days to find such a unique and individual character, so when someone like Bray Wyatt comes along, utilize him.
