IMPACT Wrestling presents their first PPV of 2019, HomeComing. The Curtain Jerker is here to give you his thoughts on all the winners and losers at Sunday’s PPV. Enjoy!
Impact World Heavyweight Championship:
Johnny Impact vs. Brian Cage
Brian Cage has been on a monster tear since joining Impact in March of 2018, winning the X Division title in short order and looking unstoppable in doing so. Impact won the title at Bound For Glory and has really had a decent run with the title in such a short time, holding off Fenix and Killer Kross. I said back on the Bound For Glory prediction thread that Impact will win the title because he is on Survivor and the company will want to generate some extra buzz from it. I was right then, and I believe right now, since Survivor season is done, he should drop the title to Cage. Cage will now usher in a new main event era in Impact, one of musclemen who have the athletic ability of X Division wrestlers.
Winner and NEW Impact World Heavyweight Champion: Brian Cage
Impact World Tag Team Titles:
LAX vs. The Lucha Bros
These 4 are going to tear the Nashville Fairgrounds down. Fenix and Pentagon are 2 of the best singles wrestlers in the world (and not too bad of a team either, being MLW World Tag Team champs themselves) and the champions, LAX, being for my money that best tag team in the world. I lean more toward LAX to retain, but with Konnan’s involvement with all 4 men and him not wanting the two teams to wrestle each other, makes this very interesting. I don’t think that a swerve against LAX will happen just yet and LAX will retain.
Winners and STILL Impact World Tag Team Champions: LAX
Impact Knockouts Championship:
Tessa Blanchard vs. Taya Valkyrie
I have said pretty much all of 2018 that Tessa Blanchard might actually be the best pound for pound wrestler in the world. Very few have all the talent that she does. Impact is building up Taya as a credible challenger, but I don’t see it happening for her.
Winner and STILL Impact Knockouts Champion: Tessa Blanchard
Monsters Ball:
Eli Drake vs. Abyss
Eli Drake has been wading around the mid-card since losing his Impact World title to Austin Aries in early 2018. He really did nothing of significance since then. Abyss is now a part-timer, so I don’t really see why he should go over one of the top entertainers in Impact, and one who just signed a contract extension with the company. Give me Eli and hopefully a new direction for his character, and maybe a World title program with his old friend Brian Cage after HomeComing.
Winner: Eli Drake
Moose vs. Eddie Edwards
Both of these men had very strange 2018’s. Moose developed himself into a World title contender, only to lose that match and join up with the man who beat him Austin Aries and develop the “Moose Money” persona. Eddie Edwards lost his mind, in storyline, and was middling around the mid-card the whole year. This is a big moment for both men as their careers have gone sideways. I think Moose is still more of a main-event guy than Eddie and he gets a big win, which could set up a massive main event program with him and Brian Cage.
Winner: Moose
Ultimate X for the Impact X-Division Championship:
Jake Crist vs. Ethan Page vs. Rich Swann vs. Trey Miguel
Ultimate X matches are always entertaining and almost always steal the show, but I have my doubts about this one. This just looks like 4 guys just put together to have a match. I don’t know how a guy like Ethan Page, who has bulked up considerably in the past year, or a tag team wrestler like Jake Crist is going to handle being in this environment, but they are helped by having 2 other newbies to the match, Rich Swann and Trey Miguel, in with them. I think Ethan Page wins and I’m going to predict it will be through nefarious means, like Matt Sydal comes out with the referee down and helps Page out.
Winner and NEW Impact Wrestling X-Division Champion: Ethan Page
Sami Callihan vs. Willie Mack
This just seems to be a throw-in match with no buildup at all. Not much to say here other than Impact Wrestling should really push Sami Callihan into the main event after all the great performances he put out in 2018.
Winner: Sami Callihan
Allie vs. Kiera Hogan
This just got added late to the show and is built around Kiera trying to bring Allie back from the darkside that Su Yung brought her to when she was trying to bring her best friend, Rosemary, back from the dead. Kiera now has Jordynne Grace on her side to combat Su. However, I think Kiera wins, not because of Jordynne Grace, but because Rosemary returns to help her and set up a storyline of Rosemary trying to help bring Allie back from the darkside.
Winner: Kiera Hogan
