Welcome to the dungeon!
I can’t ever recall a week in which so many emotions have been felt in the world of wrestling.
The week started off on an unbelievable high with the WWE Hall Of Fame ceremony where we witnessed the return of The Ultimate Warrior to the WWE, taking his rightful place among the many legends of the business. Also inducted were Razor Ramon, Jake Roberts, Lita, Carlos Colon and Mr T, this truly was a class that many thought we would never see.
After Jake Roberts and Scott Hall’s troubled pasts, who would have expected to see them both put their demons behind them and be welcomed back into the WWE family? Jake’s speech was truly emotional, it was a very moving moment and it was evident to see how much it meant to him.
There were many photos shared over the internet from the Hall Of Fame, but there was one that stood out to me – Warrior and Vince McMahon. It was great to see them embracing each other and looking like there was never a bad word said between the two.
The Ultimate Warrior spoke passionately about his lifestyle, his family and his legacy. It was very clear he believed in the Warrior lifestyle and it was great to see that the bridge between himself and the WWE has been rebuilt, along with other superstars who he had troubles with in the past.
His appearance at Wrestlemania, albeit brief, showed just how much it meant to him. He seemed proud to be joining the Hall Of Fame along with the other legends of the class of 2014.
I was ecstatic when I heard he was going to be appearing on Raw. I expected it to just be a backstage segment but it turned out to be a promo in the middle of the ring. I never thought I would see The Ultimate Warrior on Monday Night Raw again but to see him shake the ropes and cut a promo was a sight to behold.
No-one could have expected that his promo would become one of the most haunting promos in history.
The day after Raw, we lost one of the most iconic, imitated and loved characters of all time. The week started off brightly, filled with excitement and happiness and it has ended in complete shock and sadness.
R.I.P Ultimate Warrior and thank you for the great memories you gave us all.
One of the greatest moments in history also occurred this week during Wrestlemania – Daniel Bryan finally won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. I was hoping and praying he would but I always had the little bit of doubt in the back of my mind, simply because it’s the WWE and they have worked the fans many times before.
The crowd were amazing during Wrestlemania and to see the support for Bryan was a great sight. The 75,000 fans in attendance chanting YES made for great TV and as soon as he won the triple threat match the place erupted. It was a special moment for Daniel Bryan and one he truly deserved. He has worked hard to get to the top of the mountain and may he stay there for a long time to come.
Then there was that moment which may have overshadowed Daniel Bryans win – the streak ended!
I can’t remember being so stunned as a wrestling fan. The moment the referee counted three it seemed as if time stood still. For a few minutes, the thousands in attendance, the commentators and the rest of us watching at home didn’t quite know what was going on.
I was certain the streak was never going to end, at least not to Brock Lesnar. I still can’t fathom why Lesnar who was the chosen one. Maybe it was of the respect Taker and Lesnar have for each other because it seems completely pointless to have a part-timer break the legendary streak as it really doesn’t do anything to further his career.
I have watched that moment over and over again and it still doesn’t make any sense. Hopefully we will get a promo from The Undertaker in the near future to update us on what will happen next in the career of the Phenom. I think the time has come for him to hang up his boots and sadly it seems unlikely we will see a Taker/Sting match that many of us have craved for.
I think this past week will live in our minds forever as we have felt highs, lows, shocks and sadness. It has been a truly memorable week and it’s a shame it had to end on such a sad note.
