Davie’s Dungeon: Can Lesnar Win The Gold?

Welcome to the dungeon!

So Brock Lesnar is back again and finally challenging for the WWE Championship, I can’t decide whether I think it is a good or bad thing for SummerSlam. I would rather see 90% of the roster as the WWE Champion than John Cena, but will it be good for business if Lesnar becomes champion?

The WWE has been down the route of having a part-time performer as champion when The Rock won the title and I don’t think it worked out as good as anyone hoped. Having the champion make sporadic appearances on the flagship show these days doesn’t make much sense.

I love the style Lesnar brings to the ring and I think this could be a good feud for the summer’s major PPV. If John Cena doesn’t make his stupid child-like jokes and stays serious then we could be in for some very entertaining promos especially with Paul Heyman as Lesnar’s mouthpiece.

I think Paul Heyman may be the most important factor in building this feud and to make us believe that the part-timer Lesnar could walk away from SummerSlam as the champion.

When I first read that this was the main-event, I thought that it would be another John Cena win by overcoming the odds against The Beast with Heyman at ringside. However, now I think about it, a Brock Lesnar win certainly seems possible.

Again, if Lesnar does win then Paul Heyman becomes the most important factor. He will be able to show up every week on RAW and continue to tell us how great Lesnar is and how he ended The Undertaker’s streak. Brock Lesnar rarely has to show up with the championship to justify him winning the title as Heyman will be there to do it for him.

It’s the one thing The Rock was missing when he was champion; he had no-one to continue his storylines when he couldn’t appear on RAW. The fans quickly got sick of it and many were turning on The People’s Champion.

As much as I dislike John Cena as a character, no-one can deny that he is WWE through and through and he gives his life to entertain the fans. He is more than worthy of being the WWE Champion whether we like it or not.

If Cena retains his title at SummerSlam then where does the WWE go from there?

I can’t see anyone who can challenge him for the title other than Roman Reigns or Daniel Bryan when he returns. The only problem with that is who will be the heel in the feud? John Cena is never going to turn heel but at the same time, the WWE needs to produce more fan favourites who are going to take the company into the future.

I would love to see either Roman Reigns or Daniel Bryan feud with Brock Lesnar over the WWE Championship and either match could headline Wrestlemania 31. Lesnar is the ultimate ‘bad guy’ and putting him against Reigns or Bryan, who are hugely popular, could be a money maker for the WWE.

I’m hoping for a Brock Lesnar win at SummerSlam as it brings more exciting possibilities leading up to Wrestlemania than a John Cena win would.
