How’s it going everybody? Thomas Robinson here with the Armbar Analysis. We’re here to talk about an unfortunate injury for WWE superstar Emma, who sustained an injury during a live event on Sunday. The news was broke by WWE themselves, who reported that Emma injured her back and were undergoing tests to determine the severity of the injury. It turns out that the injury is quite severe, as WWE ringside physician Dr. Chris Robinson confirmed. WWE.com released an update shortly after the initial news broke, with it being confirmed that Emma had a ruptured disc that will require her to have surgery. Dr. Robinson said that Emma came to his team in a great deal of pain, which apparently seemed to be increasing. So VERY NOT good news for the Australian.
I have to say that it is a real shame to see Emma sidelined, and it’s not just a shame for Emma. Dana Brooke was promoted to the main roster just last week for the purpose of being with Emma in a similar fashion to their run together in NXT. With Emma not there anymore, Dana doesn’t have that “foot in the door” anymore to make the WWE fans aware of who she is and what’s she all about. I don’t want to declare that Dana will struggle, but Emma was initially the one that the WWE wanted to push and Dana was promoted to help Emma out. I think Emma was the higher priority, as Dana came out to the ring for SmackDown! to Emma’s theme song. I wish Dana the best now that’s she on her own but I don’t know how far she’ll get without the Australian.
As for Emma, it is truly devastating for her. Emma’s been one of the many “mid-card women” neglected by WWE’s creative team over the years. There was little done to help during her initial main roster run from 2014 to 2015. WWE dropped the ball on her and she was back in NXT. When she was back in NXT, she changed up her gimmick and turned heel. She was reinvigorated. It was very difficult for her to stand out, during a time where the NXT women and the “Divas Revolution” were the talk of the town. Despite this she was still a treat to watch and soon enough, she was back on the main roster.
She was back on the main roster as a heel and was give more time on TV as well as a feud with Becky Lynch. This was a great means to get Emma into the spotlight, considering that it followed Becky Lynch being in the show stealing WrestleMania 32 women’s title match. Emma was able to shine and it appeared that the WWE were finally going to give Emma a legitimate push. It was a delight to see her in action and delivering some decent promos. Out of everyone that was actively in the women’s roster after WrestleMania, Emma was the one I was really invested in the most. I did care about the likes of Natalya and Becky Lynch, but Emma was just a hidden gem within this “new Era.” I will add on to what I said on Twitter and wish Emma a speedy recovery. I wish you the best and let’s hope that we can see her tearing it up again when she gets back.
Emma confirmed on Twitter that she is expected to undergo surgery on Wednesday, so fingers crossed for a successful surgery!
