Hello, everyone, and welcome to another edition of ‘Fantasy Fight Friday’, SLTD Wrestling’s one stop shop for professional wrestling’s most intriguing dream matches. This week we are going with the very old school versus a self proclaimed ‘throwback’, in a battle for the ages.
In one corner you have arguably the face of the original WWWF, Bruno Sammartino, the powerhouse who Vincent J. McMahon saw set a world record in 1959 by bench-pressing 565 pounds, and became an overnight success in the pro-wrestling world. Sammartino is best known for being the longest reigning world champion in wrestling history, in any company, with a never to be matched 8 years! Its not so well known that he beat the first ever WWWF Champion Buddy Rogers in 48 seconds.
In the other corner we have a former United States Champion and Tag Team Champion, and the King of Swing, Cesaro, The Swiss Superman. Cesaro is possibly pound for pound the strongest man in the WWE right now. He learned his craft in Europe and brought those smash mouth skills to the WWE in 2012. Since then his power, agility and speed have made him a formidable foe for anyone he steps in the ring with.
This would be a hard hitting bout, full of exhibitions of strength, and speed. But who would win?

‘Although I am a huge fan of Cesaro, and I love that he calls himself a throwback, I have to say that I don’t think he would do to well against the longest reigning ‘WWE’ Champion in the company, or any company in history, Bruno Sammartino.
Sammartino was an absolute powerhouse in and out of the world of pro-wrestling, he held the record for bench-pressing, and don’t get me wrong, Cesaro is strong, he is freakishly strong but Sammartino is a record breaker. I think this alone would be the deciding factor in this match. I think Sammartino would be too much for Cesaro to handle.
That all being said I wouldn’t want to count out Cesaro too quick. I think his power may be outmatched but with Cesaro’s speed and the agility that wrestlers back in the day didn’t have, could be what keeps Cesaro in the fight. Also I think the diversity of a wrestler from now would be a game changer when wrestling someone from back when for all intent and purposes wrestling was ‘real’.
I think this would be an amazing match whatever the outcome, but i would have to give the victory to Bruno Sammartino in this occasion. No one becomes the longest reigning ‘WWE’ Champion in wrestling history without knowing their way around a ring’
