On the 23rd August 2020, Roman Reigns made his triumphant return to WWE. His main goal it seems is the Universal Championship. Reign’s returned with a spear for the fiend and ending with the title above his head. There are questions that remain unanswered. Is he now heel like the internet thinks? Is he the leader of Retribution? These are all unanswered questions at this time, but what is most definitely clear, WWE needed Roman Reigns back on TV.
Due to Reign’s battles with cancer, Reign’s was unable to be on TV for the last few months during the pandemic. People who have low immune systems or going through a type of therapy cannot get the virus if Reign’s was to get the virus it would be a much higher risk. So what is next for the Big Dog?
I’ve never been a massive fan of Reign’s, only because I feel that WWE has forced him down our throats for the last few years. There are so many other talents in WWE that are just as capable as Reigns, but the loss of John Cena meant someone had to step in. I feel as though Vince McMahon panicked as John Cena was the cash cow, now he has Roman Reigns.
At WrestleMania this year, we should have seen Goldberg vs Roman Reigns. Unfortunately, we had Goldberg vs Braun Strowman. Either match shouldn’t have taken place and the Fiend should have taken the title to Mania. I feel with Reign’s back, WWE might be looking at completing that storyline. If so, I feel sorry again for the Fiend who’ll get punished for the Big Dog’s return.
Don’t get me wrong, The Fiend doesn’t need the title to be ‘The Fiend’, but I feel as though Bray Wyatt has been the best of this pandemic era so far. He is one of the only reasons I kept on coming back to watch Friday Night SmackDown. If it does result in Reign’s getting his title shot, he will definitely win, it is written in the stars.
Reign’s has the chance to build up his legacy even more. With not being mentioned on TV for months, the creative team can go one of two ways. The first way would be to have Reign’s as the heel. Have him be the leader of Retribution and have him dominate for months to come. He has a whole pool of talent to work with when it comes to faces. However, I feel as though he is definitely back as a face. With the title in hand, he will face the full wrath of Retribution, especially with Survivor Series around the corner.
Either way, it is great to see Roman Reign’s return. He has definitely been missed, not by me, but by the whole of the WWE Universe. The more top talent they have, the better for the business. I just want them to do something new, something we don’t see coming; but I feel as though it will be the same old for the Big Dog.
