The one thing I’ve had praise for is WWE’s use of the women’s division. From the current NXT roster to the excellent Sasha Banks and Bayley feud. The problem WWE have is it seems to stick to a select group of female superstars. WWE have tried to develop stars over the last 5 years with Lacey Evans and Nikki Cross to name just two.
Below are two women from each brand that I believe have the potential, if pushed, to become something special in WWE.
NXT
Kacy Catanzaro is the first superstar who I believe has so much more to give. From her beginnings on American Ninja Warrior to the heights of the Women’s Royal Rumble, she has shown her ability is more than capable to challenge for the NXT Women’s Title. The problem Kacy has appears to be her size. Kacy stands only at 5ft and weighs in at 95lb and unfortunately, sometimes in WWE, size does matter. Kacy appears to be only seen as a mid-card talent, and I believe she has the potential to be so much more.
Raquel González is a fantastic talent. González is a second-generation professional wrestler, as she is the daughter of Ricky González. On February 16, 2020, at NXT TakerOver: Portland, González made her first televised appearance since the Mae Young Classic under the ring name Raquel González, where she interfered a street fight between Dakota Kai and Tegan Nox by slamming Nox through the table, allowing Kai to pin Nox for the win, establishing herself as a heel in the process. The problem for González is that she is currently seen as just a bodyguard, we haven’t seen her fully show off her talent as of yet. With a draft coming up, González potentially can step into a spotlight of her own.
RAW
Billie Kay is massively underrated. With her on-screen wrestling partner Peyton Royce no longer being by her side, Billie has the potential to get lost in the mix. WWE appears to have nothing but faith in Peyton Royce, and this seems to be where their push will be. For me, Billie Kay not only has the talent but is so good on the mic, it’s unreal. I would like to see Billie going out on her own and becoming a full heel. She is a heel now, but I would like to see more character depth than what we’ve seen. I do have a concern, however, that Billie may be a lost soul in this split-up of the IIconics.
Liv Morgan is another superstar who got lost with being set up within a faction. The Riott Squad was set up with Liv Morgan, Ruby Riott and Sarah Morgan. WWE appeared to have faith with Ruby, but when the injury occurred, the remaining two members struggled. Liv was forgotten and Sarah ended up being released by WWE. Liz tried to reinvent herself a few times and used social media to get that point across; WWE however, didn’t listen. There was a push from the fans, for WWE to have Liv as sister Abigail. This would have worked well, but again she may have been lost within that storyline. Liv is now back on Raw with her on-screen tag team partner Ruby Riott. I just hope WWE realise the talent she has and give Liv all the support she needs. Fantastic on the mic, good in the ring and stunning; there isn’t more you could want.
SmackDown
Naomi has had her chances and she has more than took them. She’s a former SmackDown women’s champion and the fans absolutely love her. She’s on this list because, for some reason, WWE seem to forget her quickly. She goes from being the main event scene to not seen for weeks. I don’t understand why this would be, but WWE obviously have their reasons. Naomi is fantastic in the ring and her presence is one to be admired. From her ring entrance to her in-ring ability, she is second to none. I hope WWE realise what they have before it is too late.
Sonya Deville has had an up and down 2020. From being in one of the most intense storylines of her career with Mandy Rose to be in an awful situation following an attempted kidnapping. Sonya has everything you could want in a superstar. Her aggression is fantastic and her MMA background can really be used to push her further. She has shown her ability on the mic and I just hope that once she’s back, she gets the push she deserves.
