The Fox Files- WWE & The UK Scene

Welcome back to the SLTD Wrestling site, and more specifically The Fox Files. Today, I’m going to be talking about if the independent circuit is competition for WWE, the WWE UK Championship, WWE embracing the competition, and more.

Now, personally I live in the UK, so I know how phenomenal the wrestling is over here. You have your big companies in the independent UK Scene such as ICW & Progress, then you have your smaller companies such as NGW. Also, having stepper inside the ring and training to become a wrestler myself in the UK a couple of years ago with Grapple Wrestling, there is like a little battle in the UK alone to try and be the best independent UK Wrestling company possible. The UK Scene currently has some of the best wrestlers in the world, which we will talk about shortly.

WWE then come along, announcing a WWE UK Tournament to crown the first EVER WWE United Kingdom Championship (what a long name…) And it’s safe to say, a lot of us were excited. Then the participants got announced, and it’s some of the best UK Talent and some of the best wrestlers in the world, such as Pete Dunne, Wolfgang, and the first ever WWE UK Champion, the 19 year old Tyler Bate! But… What made WWE do this tournament?

Personally, I think WWE were almost scared of the WHOLE UK Wrestling scene taking over, so they wanted to take away some of the best talent. From writing this article, this upcoming week on NXT for example, Tyler Bate goes up against Trent Seven for the UK Title, but does this mean WWE have signed them both up to contracts? I know Trent Seven is doing the ICW Tour(which I’m going to next month!) But that doesn’t take away from the facts that there are rumours going around that he is signed to WWE alongside Tyler Bate, Mandrews (Mark Andrews) and Pete Dunne. They are 3 of the biggest UK Wrestling superstars and WWE have snatched them up.

The real question is thought- if WWE keep taking the best UK Wrestling talent under contract to WWE, meaning they can ONLY perform in WWE or NXT, then what happens to the UK Wrestling scene? I’m not too sure, but we will have to keep watching over the next few months to find out the answers we need to all of the questions!

I hope you enjoyed this Fox Files, and we will catch you again next week, where we will be talking about Goldberg!
