Impact Wrestling: March 15th 2016

Hello wrestling fans and let’s take a look back at this weeks episode of Impact. We have a new TNA heavyweight champion. In a unusual booking move (and perhaps copying the set up and ending’s of New Years Resolution 2005, & Wrestlemania X) had Drew lose a mixed tag team match with his partner Gail Kim. Then, to only for Drew to have a crowning achievement later in the show. So, losing a match doesn’t matter and you can come back willy-nilly to win the top title?

Drew Galloway and Gail Kim teamed up in a losing effort versus the Bennett’s. The Bennett’s are comprised of Michael “The Miracle” Bennett and his wife and tag team partner, Maria Kanellis. However, as if nothing happened and his stock value didn’t plummet, Drew wins the world title in the show’s main event. How does any wrestler shake off a loss; and only to come back and without a real build up or recovery from said loss; to then win the main event and the company’s top title?

The Decay (Abyss and Crazzy Steve) won their match versus two other teams. This prominent tag team attraction was a triple threat tag team match. The Decay defeated Beer Money’s Robert Roode and James Storm; along with the American Wolves (Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards). However, does this make the Decay big players in the tag title scene, after losing matches previously? Doubtful.

In other action, Jeff Hardy made his well hyped return and successfully defeated Eric Young. Does this lead to a feud for the KOTM/Global/Legends title? Its the big red title that has had more name changes but with each time, has less credibility each time. Not the right way to properly use a title, or prop up it’s credibility, along much less to the individual that holds it. This title was used for GFW for a period of time, and sadly the same GFW that doesn’t have confirmed USA TV, and also the same promotion after much hype delivered 75-150 people in ballparks; with terrible attendence. Yawn, bad move and bad rub to TNA.

Eli Drake was defeated by Grado, the former Odarg the Great. The main event featured a WWE theory stolen by TNA for the Money in the Bank cash in- and with no interference from the biggest new heel Lashley (to make an “Impact” and solidify his case as a new/budding champion). Why this move wasn’t capitalized on, and only used Lashley in a backstage promo to only state- NOT show- that “He” is the top guy is astonishing. But, the cash-in led to the main event becoming a triple threat match. It was Matt Hardy versus EC3 and now Drew Galloway. Does the Galloway win mean that Carter is pushed to the background?

Surely he (Carter) wants his belt back and isn’t best to be “buddy buddy” good guy babyface to his real contender; the new champion. Matt Hardy just got his title usurped, and he naturally wants and will get a rematch for his title, and a program there. Bobby Lashley is in the picture also. There is only so much Beer Money can do, either as a heel or babyface- as a tag team. So, it would be best in the near future to create some viable opponents and contenders. Ergo, the title picture remains to be seen with members jockeying for position and hopefully TNA doesn’t play hot potato with it’s top title.
