Impact Wrestling On The Road To Bound For Glory

Impact Wrestling just announced that on Sunday, October 2nd, their signature pay-per-view Bound For Glory will eminate from the Impact Zone in Orlando, Florida.

The main event has already been set nearly 2 months in advance of the event with Ethan Carter III headed to the final step of his “redemption” tour as he won the Bound For Glory playoffs, an 8-man single elimination tournament to decide the challenger for the Impact Wrestling World Heavyweight title currently held by Bobby Lashley. EC3 went through Eli Drake in the first round, Matt Hardy in the semifinals and won the rubber match of an epic 3-match series EC3 has been having this summer with Mike Bennett to reach the main event at Bound For Glory.

His opponent still is for all intents and purporses, to be determined. Yes, Bobby Lashley currently holds the Impact Wrestling World Heavyweight title AND the X-Division title, but he still has a final hurdle before he gets to the main event at Bound For Glory in James Storm. Lashley has been collecting gold all over the company, as he beat former X-Division champion Eddie Edwards to win the X-Division title and now is putting up his World title against James Storm’s King of the Mountain title. Conventional booking would be having Lashley go over in a major way against Storm and then we get the long 2-month build of the title match and finally getting to see EC3 climb the mountain top for a 3rd time, this time at the end of Impact Wrestling’s biggest event of the year. But nothing Impact Wrestling does is conventional.

Also being bandied about as a co-main event is the long-drawn out saga that is the Hardy Brothers. We all thought that after the “Final Deletion” match that Matt Hardy was the superior Hardy and that would be that, but we were wrong. Matt has turned Jeff into his “obsolete mule” and stole his intellectual property for his financial gain. This could go one of 2 ways as it has been rumored that Jeff could be making his way back to WWE and then putting Matt over another time would make perfect sense. However, since it is professional wrestling and anything can and will happen, Jeff will get his big moment in the Impact Wrestling universe AND get his name back with a victory.

We are still 2 months away from Bound For Glory and the card is slowly but surely shaping up. It will be an event, much like WrestleMania that will shape the company’s direction for the next year and hopefully create their own mega-star in Ethan Carter III. I believe the man deserves it.
