Those of us in “Internet Wrestling Community” have at various times complained about booking decisions WWE made regarding various talent and storylines. Everybody believes they always have a better idea on anything.
More likely 90% of the time WWE tend to ignore IWC suggestions on booking strategies. That’s not to say that some ideas that have appeared won’t be that far fetched and could have possibly worked if given the chance by the powers that be.
With that in mind, here are some online booking suggestions regarding one of the more regularly discussed topics in WWE wrestling: proposed factions or revamping of factions. For this piece, the majority of these suggestions come from WrestleTalkFed GFX, mixed in with my own commentary.
The Dangerous Alliance 2.0
Long before his involvement with as Brock Lesnar’s mouthpiece or ECW, Paul Heyman was known as Paul E. Dangerously and managed a stable of known as the Dangerous Alliance, comprised of names such as Rick Rude, Steve Austin, Arn Anderson, Jimmy Snuka and Larry Zbyszko.
In 2019, there’s circumstances that could allow Heyman to recreate his old stable using current WWE superstars. Bobby (or Robert) Roode has revived an old character that literally looks like Rude, Cesaro is back to being a singles competitor who could use some direction, as do former RAW tag champions the Revival and Carmella (the only downside with Carmella is she would have to come from Smackdown in another one of those annoying ‘post’ Superstar Shakeup arrangements).
As for Heyman himself, even though Lesnar has announced he’s retiring from MMA and is expected to return to WWE at some point, a Brock Lesnar appearance is quite rare overall and Heyman is an asset that should not be wasted off the air, even though I’m sure he’s a busy man.
f WWE doesn’t want to use Cesaro or Carmella, no problem; sub in Drew McIntyre or Bobby Lashley and Ruby Riot and you would fill this proposed stable with the token powerhouse and female.
Even Scott Dawson himself got excited over this proposed formation on Twitter recently.
“The Trinity”
Although this is an intriguing idea, it would be contingent on Isla Dawn (from NXT UK) and Lacey Lane (from NXT) getting called up to the main roster, preferably Smackdown Live where Ember Moon is currently assigned.
All three deprive their gimmicks from some magical sorcery motif, so it’s a good fit. But in reality this stable may work better in the NXT scene…which means you’d either move Ember Moon back there or find a third member. Moon still has momentum and the ‘future Women’s champion’ allure written on her no matter which main roster brand she happens to be on.
War (Viking) Raiders and Sara Logan
Out of sheer protest at how they were repackaged on the main roster and being a purist, I’m referring to ROWE and HANSON by their NXT moniker (although if you want to go further back, War Machine). But even though the silliness of the names of Ivar and Erik may still annoy, they’ve come out pretty strong on RAW so far, looking like another monster tag team.
Here’s hoping they don’t end up flaming out like previous NXT Tag Team Champions the Ascension and AOP, but here’s an idea that may make them stand out: add Sarah Logan as part of their group. With the Riott Squad effectively now split up because Liv Morgan is on Smackdown, Logan has been left adrift, and she literally is married to Erik (Rowe) in real life.
Not saying that Rowe and Sarah would end up on Mixed Match Challenge or be on the next season of Total Divas, but it would be interesting to see a stable of modern day ‘vikings’ on RAW.
A trio with a male tag team and a female competitor has been done before…as per my next suggestion.
‘Team Extreme’ One More Time?
Even if WWE would pull the trigger on such a suggestion, this idea is going to have to be put on the back burner for some time as Jeff Hardy is out with a knee injury and the Hardyz recently had to relinquish the Smackdown Tag Team Championships.
With that being said, it’s 2019 and the Hardyz are still going. Even though nostalgia acts mostly are temporary, it looks like Matt and Jeff still have staying power in WWE of today, which could have stemmed from their time building up their cred on the indy circuit. As for Lita, in last year’s all women’s pay per view Evolution she showed she can still have a match in the ring.
As a fan who started watching WWE during the Attitude Era, it would be fantastic to see one last run of the original Team Extreme, the Hardy Boyz and Lita as champions.
Team BAD Redux?
Very few may remember, but Sasha Banks debuted on the main roster alongside Charlotte and Becky Lynch when she was teamed by Stephanie McMahon with Naomi and Tamina in a stable known as ‘Team BAD’. It was 2015, and the team was rather bad and couldn’t last because, frankly at the time, everyone knew Sasha Banks was the standout in that group and the group’s sole purpose was to propel her as a singles competitor; Naomi had not reached a level on her own yet and Tamina was always an afterthought.
Flash forward to today, and Naomi finds herself on RAW, Tamina has nothing to do since her partner Nia Jax is out with an injury and Banks’ trajectory in WWE is uncertain due to recent events. Why not revamp this team again as a heel faction if Becky Lynch ends up on RAW and would need an opponent to fight over the RAW Women’s title with….soemone like Sasha Banks with backup.
Or if not Tamina, then maybe another NXT female athlete that has a bit of that abrasive attitude that Banks had when she was still in NXT…like Bianca Belair?
A ‘Heel’ New Day?
Remember that Xavier Woods, Big E and Kofi Kingston were supposed to debut as a heelish faction, but WWE scrapped that idea and put them together exuding ‘the power of positivity’…which ironically enough got them boos before they heard the cheers.
If you recall, the Usos were packaged in that colourful way as well, along with war paint and Samoan garb before they turned heel and became more ‘ghetto’ as they say. Playing off the above tweet, a spin off the #BlackLivesMatter movement, the New Day could come back after Big E’s injury as a heel faction running amok on Smackdown Live.
What do you think of these suggested booking ideas?
An average professional doing the 9-5 grind who really loves wrestling across all platforms. Here's hoping wrestlers finally get some basic workers rights in 2021.
