#KWKorner: Unvaccinated #wrestling fans are screwing it up for themselves (@thekantastic)

We may have said goodbye to the much vaunted WWE Thunderdome quite too soon.

According to this report from ComicBook.com, with the spike in the COVID-19 Delta Variant across the United States there is concern that Summerslam, slated for August 21 at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium with more than 44,000 tickets already sold, may have to change their plans and return to a no audience capacity.

Ticketmaster and the stadium have announced that according to CDC guidelines, all Summerslam attendees will be required to wear a face mask during the event. If the spread of the variant doesn’t quell down during the latter days of summer and into the fall, WWE having to return to the Thunderdome is not out of the realm of possibility.

I’m not saying that watching the Thunderdome matches was torturous all the time; it really depends on how a storyline unfolds. If it is a good one, you’ll pop no matter whether you’re in the arena live or watching wrestling from home. But the psychological notion of having to go back into a closed set after finally going back before a live audience after a year and a half with no fans will be disappointing to say the least.

But the main point about the spread of the Delta variant is that it is primarily spreading and infecting those who are un-vaccinated. This is not to say that those who have been fully vaccinated cannot catch COVID from the variant; it’s just going to be a much lower percentage of those who do and with milder symptoms, according to the experts.

Where I am going with this is that unvaccinated wrestling fans, as well as those fans of other sports and live events, are really ruining the post COVID recovery for not only themselves but the rest of us, the exception being those who cannot get the vaccine due to a preexisting medical condition, which is understandable.

I honestly think unvaccinated people are not doing their part not just because of crass politics, but that they truly believe they are in some kind of a LARP, or that all this “COVID stuff” is some kind of game and that none of this is real. It didn’t help that the United States of America decided to elect a totally inept fucktard as the leader of the Free World, which only served to push that narrative further.

One wrestling fan told me he was planning to attend AEW’s Dynamite Grand Slam at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York in September, but the friend who he planned to go with isn’t getting vaccinated, which made him question whether he will now go with this friend of his after all.

Sounds to me like certain wrestling fans, adhering to an unshakeable belief that vaccines somehow make you into zombies or something stupid like that, are screwing up the enjoyment of wrestling for themselves..and the rest of us.
