#MouthingOff with MikeJC: Dynamite Weekly, Wednesday June 30th #AEWDynamite Ep.91 (@MikeJC821)

Welcome everyone to the latest edition of #MouthingOff (with MikeJC): Dynamite Weekly, the weekly review feature on AEW Dynamite here on SLTDWrestling.com. I will be giving my thoughts and opinions on all the highlights of the show as well as giving the “Remarkable Wrestler” of the week. So here are the highlights of the Wednesday, June 30th edition of AEW Dynamite.

The Young Bucks vs. Eddie Kingston & Penta El Zero Miedo

Chris Jericho came out to do commentary for the entire show because thats what we need, four commentators for the entire show. The Young Bucks have new mustaches and they look hilarious. The match is a great back and forth match. Once again Rick Knox is doing his job horribly and letting The Young Bucks get away with low blows and counting slower for the other team.

The action builds throughout and The Young Bucks try to beat Penta with the Lucha Bros. double team finish, but Eddie Kingston is able to break it up. Then Anderson and Gallows distract the ref and Brandon Cutler tries to use the cool spray to their advantage but sprays Matt Jackson and Frankie Kazarian takes out Cutler. Penta would hit a package Piledriver and Kingston would hit a spinning backfist to grt the victory and earn a tag team championship opportunity.

Segment Rating: 5.75/10

I really don’t like the “beat the champion to earn a tirle shot” stuff WWE does it all the time and it never helps anyone because it almost always results in 50/50 booking. It was the first AEW has done it so I guess it’s fine that it happens once. Eddie and Penta aren’t beating the bucks we all know that and that’s why I don’t love this but it’s fine. The title match is set for next week and I expect the same shenanigans with Young Bucks retaining. Also love the mustaches.

Ethan Page Interview

Ethan Page says he’s done everything to take out Darby and he keeps coming back. He’s thrown him down stairs, tossed him into the crowd and Darby keeps getting back up and crippling him physically isn’t an option anymore he’s going to cripple him mentally and everytime he does a coffin drop he’ll think of Ethan.

The lights go out and Sting comes out pulling a coffin o wheels and Darby pops out of the coffin. Sting grabs Scorpio Sky and hits the Scorpion Death Drop, and Darby rakes the eyes of Ethan. Security comes out and Ethan says the match is off next week and it might be Fyter Fest now.

Segment Rating: 5.5/10

This was a good segment that was done to delay the date of the coffin match which is fine since next week is pretty stacked already. I’m excited for the match and I don’t might being delayed here.

Jungle Boy vs. Jack Evans

This was a fine match that was basically just a bounce back win for Jungle Boy and thats fine. They also brought up that with the win, Jungle Boy is the first AEW competitor to reach fifty wins. With wins and losses mattering thats a big deal for him. Jungle Boy secured the win with the Snare Trap.

Post match we get Matt Hardy, Private Party and Angelico coming out and they are fought off by Luchasaurus and Marko Stunt and Christian goes right for Matt Hardy who chokes him with his own jacket but Jack saves him to end the segment.

Segment Rating: 5/10

This match was fine but they really need to stop having these big brawls after every match. They are needed sometimes but that isn’t the only way to progress a story and AEW seems to do them every single week. This was one of the times that didn’t needed it, they need to fix that. Also surprising they haven’t announced the match between Matt Hardy and Christian especially with all the special Dynamite episodes coming up.

Dark Order Lets Kenny Omega Know Whose Next

Tony Schiavone is interviewing Kenny Omega who also has outlandish facial hair like his Elite brothers, he’s sporting the 2005 Triple H look probably as a rib. Kenny runs down everyone he’s beaten for the AEW championship since winning it and there’s nobody left he’s beaten everyone.

This brings out The entire Dark Order and Evil Uno says Omega hasn’t beaten everyone and Omega says to take his video game playing freaks out of here because none of them are ranked high enough to challenge him, then he says if he faced 5 he’d beat him in less then two minutes which is a jab at last year when Omega did face 5 and fans complained that Kenny gave him too much offense. Those are the kind of references on AEW i enjoy.

Evil Uno would interrupt and he reiterates that none of them out there right now may be ranked high enough but there is someone who is that isn’t out here right now whose ranked number one in the rankings. Omega says if you’re talking about who I think you’re talking about I don’t think he’d appreciate you speaking on his behalf and he doesn’t have the guts.

Later in the night “Hangman” Adam Page would confront The Dark Order about this and ask why they did that. They tell him he’s earned his spot by working his way up the rankings and that he deserves this. They all leave and Alex Reynolds speaks to Adam on his own and tells Adam that this is his time.

Segment Rating: 8/10

So there’s a lot to discuss here, I’ll try to condense it for the sanity of all of us, me included. This segment is the seeds being planted of a longer story that has been told better then anything in wrestling in years. This goes back to the first AEW Championship match ever. Hangman lost that match and went on a downward spiral and even after him and Kenny were teaming and lost the tag titles he went on an even bigger spiral. This is going to be the culmination of all that and I absolutely love it. Page doesn’t even want to challenge Kenny and The Dark Order is making him believe in himself again and win that belt and him officially join Dark Order for believing in him. One of the best stories in wrestling ever and I can’t wait to see it play out.

TNT Championship: Miro (c) vs. Brian Pillman Jr.

There’s nobody better then Miro right now. He’s been on another level since winning this championship. He’s ruthless, he’s calling himself “The Redeemer” and “God’s Champion” all of it has put him on another level and his promos are better then ever.

This match was built on Miro basically losing his mind. Acting like he was protecting Kip’s wife two shows ago when in reality he was just targeting somone to get in Kip’s head when he returns. This was the coming out party for Brian Pillman Jr.

Pillman was all over Miro throughout this match and almost ninety percent. Pillman hits a pair of superkicks and goes for a third but Miro turned it around and hits his own and follows it up with a second. Then after taunting the crowd Miro locks in the Game Over to secure the victory.

Segment Rating: 5.75/10

This was a great performance by both competitors as mentioned this was a big match for Brian Pillmam Jr. he also had a great promo right before this match. It’s not Pillman’s time but one day it will be he proved he can go on this stage and kill it. Miro is just on another level and I’d like to say I know where this is going but I have no idea.

Nyla Rose & Vickie Guerrero vs. Britt Baker & Rebel

This is inexcusable. Vickie Guerrero shouldn’t be inside a ring “wrestling” in 2021. She’s not a wrestler, never has been and never will be. It’s inexcusable that they even announced this match, and let Vickie be involved. Not only that Rebel whose also not really a wrestler but not on the level that Vickie isn’t, worked the majority of the match and got badly injured during this match dislocating her kneecap.

Britt of course enters at the end and destroys Vickie who no sold everything which helps nobody. Gave her the lockjaw and she continued tapping after the hold was broken after losing and then stood right back up. All of this sucked.

The only thing that progressed the story was after the match Nyla Rose put Britt through a table off the apron which could have been done alone instead of the entire match.

Segment Rating: 2/10

This would be a 0 or a dud if not for the table spot. This was a regression of what they built on this division. You could put anyone in a match there’s people on the roster that can work a match as mentioned this didn’t even need to be a match at all. Do a promo, do a contract signing, do something else. Not this, it’s unbelievably bad. This shouldn’t be the only women segment on the show and when we were clamoring for Britt to be on top we didn’t want division regression just horrible.

MJF vs. Sammy Guevara

This is easily one of the best matches in the history of AEW Dynamite. These two are going to be at the top of this show with the likes of Darby Allin and Jungle Boy for years to come. This match built for a while in the best way. Theres so much good it’s impossible to do it justice by describing it all. Spanish Fly, Canadian Destroyer, Guevara pulled out everything to defeat MJF and even did a dive from the top rope to the front row of the crowd that was an absolutely amazing highlight.

Back in the ring they are fighting eachother into the corner and MJF pulls out a middle rope tombstone piledriver snd Guevara somehow kicks out. My only argument for this not being the finish even though it should have been is that MJF immediately sold the knew so well that you couldn’t tell if he was really hurt at times and was unable to get a secure pin because of it.

They continue fighting and Guevara eventually hits the GTH but he gets over zealous with his pin and MJF has a foot on the rope because of it. Guevara now frustrated goes for and hits the 630 senton. Even after MJF tried pleading with him not to hit it, even so somehow MJF still kicked out. This brought out Shawn Spears who has a chair which prompts Jericho to leave the commentary table to help but he’s met by Wardlow who attacks him and throws him off the stage area.

With the referee distracted by the Wardlow/Jericho thing Shawn Spears hits Sammy Guevara with a chair shot to the head which looked safer then most chair shots but still was enough to secure MJF’s victory.

After this match we get a great highlight video of all the moments that took place at Daily’s Place from March 2020 to this show as this is the last show at Daily’s Place before AEW goes back on the road next week. It’s a great video with highlights of when their was no fans at all all the way to today with full crowds once again and a lot of Brodie Lee in this video as well, very touching.

Segment Rating: 8.5/10

This not much more I can say about this match it’s one of the best AEW matches let alone best Dynamite matches. People tend to think spots like the middle rope tombstone shouldn’t be done if it’s not the finish which I would normally agree but what they did to explain it when the knee injury was being sold greatly. Based on the information given by an injury law firm in Orange County, it is important to take legal help for any kind of injury cases. MJF doesn’t get enough credit for how good he truly is if you didn’t believe it before this match proved it. Guevara lost which was expected as it was mentioned early in the show MJF is building to another Jericho singles match. With Spears interfering it doesn’t hurt Guevara one bit to get his first singles loss as he will bounce back with a win over Spears soon enough. I will recommend this match to anyone it’s worth the watch.

Remarkable Wrestler of the Week

For this episode of AEW Dynamite, the Remarkable Wrestler of the Week is, Sammy Guevara.

Guevara gets the RWOW this week for his stellar performance in the main event and for leaving it all out in the ring despite the loss. I can’t wait to see how he progresses over the years as he has one of the brightest futures of anyone on the roster.

Overall

This was a great episode Overall with great wrestling snd great storytelling, overall I give this episode of Dynamite a 5.8 out of 10. For all the good on this show the one really bad womens match brought it down heavily and I hope that doesn’t become a trend as we had gotten away from that in AEW. Things not rated was a good segment where Christian motivated Jungle Boy and then he told Luchasaurus he was also part dinosaur which was kind of funny. As well as an MJF promo discussing what he’s got in store for Jericho before their inevitable singles match. Also Andrade challenged Matt Sydal to a match next week which should be a good one and Taz announced that Ricky Starks is cleared and him and Brian Cage will settle their differences in a match for the FTW title in two weeks. The next couple Dynamite shows all have a special name attacked like Road Rager and Fyter Fest so being back on the road and everything going forward hopefully will be really exciting.
