Being ill this week has left me with a lot of time on my hands. Time spent wisely, sat in my house pants, eating chocolate and watching wrestling. All of my favourite things to do rolled into one week of utter bliss.
Monday night Raw was my first stop. Many things flitted thorough my mind, mainly due to the fact that I was delirious on a vast amount of Covonia and aspirin. My first thought was for all the smarks in Chicago cheering for Punk: CM Punk, the WWE Champion, who walked out of a Champion v Champion match in his hometown in front of his fans! Even after the announcement of a ‘personal day’, the sheep continued to cheer him. I have had an almost 10 year full blown obsession with John Cena, but would I cheer him if I was in the crowd that he walked out on? HELL NO!
What we had in Chicago this past week was a case of smarks cheering someone they thought they should. Cena never gets a good reception in Chicago, that’s a fact. Punk was cheered due to Cena being his nemesis. No fan in the crowd could have agreed with Punk bailing on what was set to be a good match, but still they cheered, simply for the fact that they thought they should. Are you serious bro? Let’s face it, as a fan you want to see your favourite wrestle – end of. It just goes to show how far people will go to get a point across. Punk is doing an excellent job of succumbing to the role of ‘super heel’, but fans need to realise when to cheer your man and when to just be plain old disappointed!
My second cough mixture intoxicated thought was for Jack Swagger. The man who’s got as much charisma as a sloth, but he’s a good wrestler. We’re quick to forget that Swagger has had a belt around his waist on more than one occasion. Jobbing? For almost 9 months? Ridiculous! I’m hoping that his somewhat dramatic exit was a sign of a push on his return. He was right, he certainly does deserve better! I’d love to see him battle it out with Cesaro, or be the first to subdue Ryback’s appetite.
WWE has a great talent for killing off rising stars and Swagger is probably a victim of the “too much, too soon” push that we see so often. WWE need to remember that just because it was popular at one time, doesn’t mean that the ever evolving WWE Universe will find it appealing the second time round. Lord Tensai (Albert to fans of a certain age) for example, is a waste of TV time. There are so many good wrestlers already on the roster like Rollins, Kidd, Gabriel, Riley and McGillicutty, so instead of bringing back washed-up stars no one really cared about, they should make better use of the talent right under their noses.
Now, I must have been at the height of my delirium as my mind wandered to Heath Slater. He irritates me more than a bad dose of thrush, however, against all odds, he appears on Raw on a more regular basis than most and gets a good segment to boot! As annoying as he is and as disturbing as his man boobs are; I look forward to seeing him. Yes, it’s to see him get his arse handed to him, but I look forward to seeing him all the same, and that’s what it’s all about! He has had the privilege to work with some of the best WWE superstars of all time and if my hunch is right, perhaps he will get to work with the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be this coming Monday. As ridiculous as it may sound, I firmly believe he is the one to watch in the near future.
It’s clear for all to see that AJ is on her way out…. And so the speculation begins (again) as to who will replace her? There have been rumours this week that both she and Booker T are to be ousted by Vince in the not so distant future. As I don’t find either very appealing, I can’t wait to see what Mr M has up his sleeve! My vote was, and still is, with Regal!
All I will say about the Cena/ADR match is that Del Rio’s oversized Burrito has been on my screen way too much lately. He has fought Sheamus at least 25,000 times and bores me almost to suicide. Make way for Barrett! ADR and Ricardo can ride off into the Mexican sunset to continue their bromance somewhere I don’t have to watch! As for Punk taking Cena out and being chauffeured away by Heyman? I can’t wait to see what they have planned. Heyman is a veteran and a pro. Whatever the plan is, you can guarantee that it’s going to be epic!
