NXT Takeover: Brooklyn 2 Review

Hello again, it’s me TWB here to give you my thoughts on NXT Takeover Special from the Barclays Centre.

Austin Aries Vs No Way Jose

This match opened the Takeover Special, No Way Jose had a very Adam Rose like entrance as a handful of fans joined him to parade around the ring. Much like all of Aries matches it was okay, but not great and he certainly hasn’t lived up to the “greatest man that ever lived” motto in my opinion. However despite the stupid entrance from No Way Jose I felt this was his best showing in NXT, he should be a lot more serious inside the ring. However the result for Aries to go over was the better decision as you need to look at both men’s longevity and future in the company, despite a couple of poor showings I believe that Aries can be a success not just in NXT but also on the main roster, however I believe No Way Jose on the other hand will struggle if he were on the main roster, look at Adam Rose as a prime example. The post match save from Hideo Itami sets up what should be a good rivalry between Aries and Itami.

Ember Moon vs Billie Kay

This match was your typical debut match, Ember Moon who was debuting took some offence from the ever improving Billie Kay, before Moon fought back and put her opponent away with a beautiful Top Rope Stunner. I anticipate that Ember Moon could be pushed to the moon, and she could be the next challenger for Asuka’s NXT Womens Championship.

Bobby Roode Vs Andreade “Cien” Almas

You have to feel for Andreade, he’s supposed to be playing the baby face but in his last two Takeover matches he’s faced two guys who are oozing with charisma in Tye Dillinger and Bobby Roode. Mr. Glorious himself was making his debut inside a NXT ring but as soon as he stepped inside the squared circle you could tell that he owned it, and despite being the heel the crowd wouldn’t boo Roode. Almas pulled out some tricks of his bag including a lovely springboard plancha but the crowd didn’t react, in the end the wrestling crowd of New York were cheering for the heel in Roode when he put Almas away.

The Revival vs Johnny Gargano and Tommasso Ciampa

In my opinion this was match of the night and I’d argue that it was The Revivals best match so far in NXT. Both teams are ready for the main roster as are a lot of the NXT roster. The Revival played their typical heel tactics which we’ve seen before, however I’m not sure if I’ll get bored of them. Ciampa and Gargano were making their Takeover debuts, but you wouldn’t sense any nerves at all as both guys tore it up in the ring against Dash and Dawson. There were plenty of near falls and false finishers that got the crowd on their feet. In the end The Revival retained but hopefully it’s not the end of this rivalry and we see a couple more matches between Gargano and Ciampa and Dash and Dawson.

Asuka Vs Bayley

Personally I think this match was way better than their match at Takeover: Dallas. Bayley showed aggression that we’d never seen before, but Asuka looked as lethal and dangerous as she could have. In the end I think the correct result happened with Asuka retaining. It looks as though if Bayley will be going to the main roster which I’m happy with and hopefully she’ll join the Smackdown brand, as I believe it needs more women to strengthen the division. Asuka on the other hand is still undefeated after 10 months of her making her debut, personally I hope she faces Ember Moon next, as aside from Moon and a few others the NXT Women’s Division looks pretty thin.

Samoa Joe Vs Shinsuke Nakamura

You know when you’re a star when get a superstars entrance, which Nakamura received last night. Having a violinist play his theme live in the arena for his entrance, was in my opinion, along with Bobby Roode’s entrance, one of the best in WWE today. The crowd were firmly behind “The King Of Strong Style” and he was drinking in all the crowd reactions. Samoa Joe looked and seemed like the Bad**s that he should be. This was the first Nakamura match where I felt that he would lose, especially following the Muscle Buster, however two Kinsisha’s later, one potentially breaking Joe’s jaw, meant that NXT had a new NXT Champion. I presume at the next Takeover we’ll see a rematch between Joe and Nakamura, however after that who does Nakamura face presuming he’ll beat Joe in the rematch? Let me throw out a name for you, even though he hasn’t signed with WWE, but let’s face it money talks, therefore I am predicting that the “Golden Star” Kota Ibushi will face Shinsuke Nakamura in a few months time.

Anyway that is my NXT Takeover: Brooklyn 2 review I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did, Summerslam and main roster you’ve got to go out and top that, good luck!
