Well hello readers, it’s been a while due to some personal circumstances beyond my control happening, but worry not, I am back. As this weekend is the weekend of my birthday, i’m going have a look back at some weird and wonderful celebrations in the world of WWE.
The Gobbledy Gooker
During the build up to Survivor Series 1990 a mysterious giant egg would appear and cause the most intrigue in the build up to the event. I don’t think anyone expected a giant Turkey to come out of the egg and go and dance around with Mean Gene Okerlund!
Randy Savage & Miss Elizabeth Re-Unite
This one was a tearjerker wasn’t it? Randy Savage lost a Career Ending Match vs The Ultimate Warrior in an excellent, emotionally charged match at WM7, and then got attacked by his valet at the time Sensational Sherri. Elizabeth, who was in attendance beat down on an already beaten Savage, Elizabeth jumped the barricades and saved her man. These actions and embrace caused the women in attendance to be in tears, not a bad celebration if I do say so myself.
Raw is Owen
It was the Raw after the tragic death of Owen Hart. Owen’s death lead Raw into being a celebration of the “Black Hart”, the “King of Harts” the ultimate ribber, Owen Hart. This was the first time WWE had paid tribute to an active worker in this way (From my memory anyway), the 10 Bell Salute, the celebration of Owen’s life and work, a very sad and tragic time was turned into something positive. Whilst we have seen celebrations for Eddie Guerrero, and the start of Chris Benoit’s before the story developed, it was Owen’s that paved the way.
Chris Benoit & Eddie Guerrero Embrace at WM20
Two men at the top of their games. Two men who weren’t in the WWE mould, that had fought their demons on the past. Two men that travelled the world and wrestled together for many, many years, both won a World Title within a month of each other. You could see and sense the passion and the true friendship between them, it’s just a damn shame that both of these true icons are no longer with us.
Last but not least…..
Edge & Lita Live Sex Celebration
I just had to have this one of the list didn’t I? It was so out there, and it was so in-line with the Rated R Superstar gimmick it just worked. Even with Lita’s nip-slip, and the pure raunchiness of it all was just brilliant to watch, so props to WWE for actually allowing it to go down as it did.
So there we have it, a few memories from celebrations from days gone by. As always you can share your thoughts and opinions with myself and the whole SLTD Wrestling crew. See you next time.
