This article is probably going to sit better with some of our older readers, but could also strike a cord with the students, and in all honesty probably will make me sound super grumpy, but it is what it is.
If we just take WWE into account, their weekly program times runs something along the lines of Raw 3 hours, Smackdown 2 hours, NXT 1 hour, 205 live 1 hour, and that’s not taking into account extras such as Raw Talk, Talking Smack, and other wrestling related things from the Network and E!.
In everyday terms, if you just watch Raw, Smackdown, NXT & 25 live, that is the equivalent of a 37/40 hour a week worker, spending an working day just watching the main shows. If you do watch the extra’s that could put you easily over 10 hours a week of wrestling related viewing, then if you’re really lucky you’ll have a PPV that could be 4 hours if you watch the pre-show too, and for the bigger events it could be as long as 6 hours, here’s looking at you Wrestlemania. Then if you’re really, really lucky, there could be two PPV’s in the calendar month, so that could add another 8 hours to your viewing.
Maybe you also enjoy watching the other companies out there too such as Impact, ROH, NJPW, and for our massive British following, all the local companies that are currently booming such as CHAOS, PCW, ICW etc, so if you watch a bit of everything, each week watching wrestling can be a full time job in itself.
Now I am a huge wrestling fan, and have been for a good 25+ years (Yes I am that old folks) but is it too much for people to watch? I admit I do struggle to find the time to watch all the things I enjoy watching as I work full time, I have a family and kids have activities and events to attend etc, and many others are in the same boat.
The question I am throwing out there to all our readers is this. Is there too much wrestling to watch at the moment? Are you now picking and choosing what company and events to watch? Are you struggling to find time to fit it all in? With the British boom are you now finding yourself watching more local shows than relying on the big American companies?
You can answer and discuss all these questions with me on Twitter and through our SLTD Facebook & Twitter accounts, please do engage with me as I am very interested in hearing your opinions on my bah humbug topic.
