For many years now there’s been a complaint amongst wrestling fans that WWE don’t show any continuity in their story lines, and it’s rearing it’s ugly head yet again.
Let’s start with Raw. At Survivor Series it was made known that anyone that failed would be subject of punishment. So from the Raw side Sami Zayn, and the Team Raw 5 of Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho, Braun Strowman, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins all lost at Survivor Series, so one would naturally expect for these 6 individuals to get some sort of punishment on Raw right?
Wrong. Only one was deemed worthy of punishment, and that was Sami Zayn, and his punishment? Well if you bothered to watch Raw, you’ll know that his punishment was to face Braun Strowman….wait so Raw gave Strowman a gift of facing Sami who was being punished yet Strowman lost at Survivor Series too? Thumbs up there creative.
Then we head to the next weird bit, again Rollins on the loosing side, his punishment is a Universal Championship shot against Kevin Owens. You could argue that having Kevin Owens defend the Universal Championship is a punishment, but he’s a heel in a no dq match, not exactly punishment is it? Jericho & Reigns are off without a whimper too, classic stuff WWE, really good, thumbs up again.
Smackdown are fairing a lot better but still this past Survivor Series week, there’s been no continuity. The Smackdown before Survivor Series, Undertaker is used and tells the team that if anyone causes Smackdown to loose they can Rest In Peace. So now we have oodles of opportunities here. We’ll rule out the women just because WWE don’t do inter-gender matches anymore. However the tag teams lost, there’s plenty of guys there who would gain loads from Taker. Baron Corbin cost Smackdown the Cruiserweight division, he’d become a star off working a program with Taker, and then there’s a certain Dean Ambrose.
Yes Smackdown won that match, but Dean Ambrose taking out AJ Styles as he did with his old Shield buddies, allowing for AJ to get eliminated would be seen as an act of treason by Taker. So why haven’t we had WWE bring Taker in, and at least warn Ambrose about his actions? Why have Taker hinting at a more regular schedule when they’ve got storylines in the making, not to be used? Thumbs up again creative.
This is just stuff from the past 10 days or so, and there are thousands of other instances over the years, so when will WWE finally realise we aren’t all stupid people who’ll forget the previous weeks interactions? When will creative finally come up with story lines that have continuity? We well ever see it? Plenty to ponder methinks!
