For those that have known me for a period of time, they’ll know I have never been fond on The Miz and I didn’t see what a lot of people saw in him during his Tag Team run with Jo-Mo and even more so in his WWE Title run, for me, much like Dolph Ziggler he lacked that special something.
However since the brand split earlier this year, nobody has gained so much as Miz. He has been in a world of his own in terms of promo ability, story telling and quality of his matches, only AJ comes close, so it shows just how good Miz has been.
A lot of his new found momentum will no doubt be put down to his “feud” with Daniel Bryan, however you can’t discount what having his wife, Maryse about has done for him, both in ring and mentally during the down times, but I can’t give Miz himself enough credit for how well he has done recently, and for me he is now showing that special something that is making him standout…..
Which leads me to asking why haven’t WWE pulled the trigger and moved him up to the main event level tier now he is on fire? I know AJ is the Champion and as a rule heel vs heel doesn’t go down well, however AJ is so over with the crowd, even as a heel, it would be so easy to turn him face, even tweener to face off with Miz going forward.
When you also consider that Dean Ambrose has had his main event stint and they can’t milk AJ vs Ambrose anymore, Ziggler was given a shot and failed, John Cena is busy with outside projects, that WWE have obviously sanctioned, and the only other main event calibre guy who is ready is engaged in a wonderfully played out so far Wyatt Family storyline, and with Taker, well being Taker and showing up once year despite his warnings, there’s a massive spot that someone can move into.
I know I have said they can move Baron Corbin in but he still needs a bit more momentum to be built up, where as Miz is there, and is ready, and even in a losing effort, wouldn’t lose anything from a failed attempt at the WWE Title. Plus if they can do Champion vs Champion on a Raw PPV, why can’t they on Smackdown? Afterall I’m sure AJ vs Miz would go down a hell of a lot better than Kevin Owens vs Roman Reigns right?
Miz is in with a very good shout of being my superstar of the year for 2016 when we go into that review, so as much as i’d never, ever thought I would make this statement, I would love to see The Miz back in the main event scene going forward as he thoroughly deserves it!
