I’m pretty sure all of you guys know where this is going, but for those who can’t really tell from the title of this article, i’m talking about “Talking Smack”, or for this article the third part of Smackdown Live.
Whilst Raw has it’s traditional 3 hour slot to do it’s best work, Smackdown is thriving with a two hour show plus an hour of it’s talk show, and I use that term loosely, Talking Smack, and it’s during Talking Smack that a few brilliant things have taken place, to show us what direction Smackdown is seemingly heading in.
Not so long ago everyone was talking about Miz’s rant to Daniel Bryan during an episode of Talking Smack. People were saying that this was Miz breaking that ceiling again on his way to Main Event proceedings, many were predicting it would be Miz who got one more match out of Daniel Bryan, time will tell if this is a prelude or not.
Fast forward a few weeks and we have everybody’s favourite non WWE contracted enhancement talent James Ellsworth appeared and got given a WWE Title shot the week after after his famous win over AJ Styles. We’ve had AJ Styles himself appear and berate Daniel Bryan and telling him he’s turning into the same Authority he stood against.
Then this week we had Baron Corbin, who fresh off destroying Jack Swagger on Smackdown cut his best promo to date. We got so much character development from one segment from Corbin, he put himself right in the mix for a decent push on Smackdown from just getting that opportunity on Talking Smack.
Would these guys have been given the opportunity to produce some of this quality of Smackdown Live was at 3 hours like Raw? Almost certainly not. Would we see such character development and a chance of promo time if the situation was the same? Again almost certainly not.
Having Talking Smack is a blessing for Smackdown at the moment. They have got a format that is working with Renee and Daniel Bryan being joined by Smackdown talent. They have an excellent blend of faces and heels appearing and being allowed time to show their characters, heck even Mojo Rawley came over really well on the show, that proves a hell of a lot.
My hope is that the powers that be in the WWE creative department for Smackdown Live keep this format going and do not change anything abou it as this is a vital cog in Smackdown Live’s wheel. I am looking forward to the next few Talking Smack’s to see what goes down, the question is are you?
