Well readers it’s that time of the week again, and this time the weekly GFW Impact show is named Victory Road. Whilst I wish this would revert to a PPV name i’ll have to take it on the chin for now. So lets go and look at three good things and three bad things for Victory Road.
Three Good
Trevor Lee vs Petey Williams – Outside of the predictable interference from Caleb Konley, and the slightly horrid finishing sequence this match was actually pretty damn good. You just know that pretty soon Lee will be made to defend the title in a match that will negate that outside interference but will that be against Sonjay Dutt or someone different?
oVe vs LAX – A brilliant tag title match with some sequences that made me sit up and wow. The Superplex into the Powerbomb by the Crist brothers was one moment, and the Death Valley Driver by Ortiz on one of the brothers onto the other one in the corner. Also new Champions set, I wasn’t expecting that to happen here was expecting it to go down at Bound For Glory, but what a match.
Eli Drake Retains – I was enjoying the match with Impact but it got all too silly with the ref bumps and shenanigans towards the end of the match. As Drake retained it all ended as a good point for me, and he was even left standing to end the show after the post match shenanigans too!
Three Bad
Finishing Sequences – In three of the four matches on the show the ending sequences were horrid. I’m not sure who put those finishes together but they do need to take a long, hard look at themselves as something needs to change if these finishes become a regular occurrence.
6 Woman Tag Team Match – Too much focus on Taya Valkyrie, no focus on anyone else involved in feuds to build the tensions. The match was too short for anything of note to happen, and as for the finish, well read the first bad point, just all around horrid.
Lashley & His Team – Again a focus put on this whole storyline of if he stays or not. It’s becoming an afterthought at the moment as it’s the same stuff week in, week out. Whatever is going on with Lashley post Bound For Glory he needs to be putting Moose over, but the storyline needs to end, and it needs to end fast.
As a sidenote I was really tempted to put the use of Garza Jr in the closing segment as one of the good things. He’s obviously well liked by those in charge, and the chance to make new stars always needs to be taken when that opportunity arises so we’ll see how that one goes down in the future weeks.
That’s all for this episode so see you all next time.
