This will be a short one this week because Raw was a harbinger of awfulness this week.
How Much Is The Network Again?
Well this started off rather funny, but then turned into an awful segment after the 16th mention of “9.99”. I get that they are desperate for new subscribers, I get that we are rapidly approaching the renewal period for the original subscribers but this was the worst most pander heavy segment in forever, and they should be ashamed for it.
On the other hand, people in the US who watch wrestling who haven’t signed up for the network yet, what exactly is stopping you? It’s 9.99 a month, that’s 120 dollars a year. If you buy 2 pay per views a year (say Summerslam and Wrestlemania) you’ve already spent that (more if you go HD) so what exactly is the issue? I know it isnt internet speeds, because the US has a pretty decent average across the continent, so what is it? Being tied to a contract? Because the content on offer more than justifies the price point. Matter of fact, if they increase the price to 19.99 a month, I will still subscribe because its just that damn great! I know some people complain about streams of pay per views live, but I have watched the last 3 live and have not had any issues!
Get on it Americans, if for nothing else so that we never have to endure a segment like this again.
Roman Reigns Overcomes The Odds; Cena Sues For Gimmick Infringement
Oh look, another Roman Reigns and Kane match. I wonder what will happen? Nothing new, that’s for sure.
Blood AND Urine AND Vomit ALL FOR ONLY $9.99
Brock Lesnar is always at his best when he isn’t being scripted and is allowed to talk as himself. And this was the best example of that. He didn’t need Paul Heyman, he just spoke as the big gorilla like badass that he is and it was amazing! Cena, for his part, did a good job, but he can’t hold a candle to a Brock Lesnar unhinged and unscripted!
Oh look, they have ruined Dean Ambrose vs ADR already
Last week on Main Event, Dean Ambrose vs Alberto Del Rio was a fresh match, now its gotten old. Good, but old! The match, in my opinion went on for about 8 minutes longer than it needed to, especially considering what happened later, but it was still good. There was just a lot of pacing and waiting for things to kick into high gear which is not the way to get an audience involved.
Jericho / Harper Should Have Been Better
I had high hopes for Jericho and Harpers match on Raw. Harper has had good to great matches with other people in the past and Jericho is the type of wrestler that brings greatness out of people, so it was a little disappointed that it wasn’t that good. It was sloppy in parts and didn’t even have a definitive finish. I know I shouldn’t be surprised at that last part but I was.
Ambrose FTW
I think most of us can agree that Dean Ambrose is something special. The crowd is into him, he can go in the ring and his character is just amazing and always on. His interactions with the announcers and the crowd (plants) were amazing and it was a fresh take on the distraction finish in that it wasn’t just waving at the guy in the ring and then guy in ring gets pinned out of nowhere. There were contract rippings, soda and popcorn being placed in briefcases (with JBL’s hat as a topping!). It all just worked. There didn’t need to be any physicality here, and there wouldn’t be anyway because Rollins is afraid of Ambrose and wouldn’t leave the ring because of it, and that makes sense since Ambrose is being positioned as unstable in this instance.
Hats off (ba dum tish) to Ambrose for making a Heath Slater roll up win so much more entertaining than it should be. Titty master strikes again!
The Stephigree!
God, Brie Bella is awful, and so is Nikki. From Brie’s fake speech that she memorised just before coming out, to Nikki’s blank expression throughout the whole thing, they really dragged down the whole segment. But enter Stephanie to drag it back up from the gutter and save it because she is amazing and you should all love her and hate her at the same time.
For example, look at how good her Pedigree to the Bella’s was:
I don’t mind that this was given the main event slot two weeks in a row, but it really should have been Stephanie and ANY OTHER TALENTED WRESTLER, rather than “wife of Daniel Bryan” because that’s all this is. This is an extension of Daniel Bryan’s feud with the Authority and a way to have Stephanie feud with / have a match with Daniel Bryan without actually doing it. If only D-Bry had married AJ Lee…..
