Raw this week was a bit of a mixed bag. There was some great stuff, but it got sandwiched between such blatant mediocrity that it just didn’t seem as good as it actually was.
Triple H Opens Raw, Shocks Noone
Man, did this anger me. Triple H is no stranger to being a smug douchebag who rags on the fans who don’t like the product. But this was alienating a core fanbase on a whole other level. And this comes at a time when they are looking to keep people subscribed to the network as well. This was a bonehead move that didn’t blur the lines between fantasy and reality, it just came off as spiteful, mean and Triple H middle-fingering the whole universe that is passionate about good wrestling and wanting talented people to succeed.
The rest of it was pretty standard, they were really just setting up Randy Orton vs Roman Reigns and biding time until Lesnar showed up to challenge John Cena.
Roman Cena Overcomes The Odds
Another week, another inch forward towards Roman Reigns becoming the samoan John Cena! This week he was put in a handicap match with Randy Orton (who he is supposed to face in a singles match at SummerSlam) and Kane (nothing effective here, moving on!).
In fairness to the creative team, he didn’t just outright destroy both of them to win, Randy left Kane by his lonesome and that to Reigns hitting the spear on Kane for the win. Not super effective, but not terrible either.
Wanted: Acting Lessons For Brie Bella
I like Brie Bella. Of the two twins, she got the brain it seems and she is much less vapid and airheady than her buxom sister. In saying that, she should never be allowed to speak on live television ever again! She is a stain on the spoken word! I don’t want to talk about this for long because it was so bad, and the match was so throwaway and featured some of the worst talent in the divas division.
The best thing was this guy, who clearly has never heard the word bitch before:
Hilares!
Great Midcard Matches!
A lot of people are going to complain because the new champ Miz lost his first match with the belt. But I think this is a good thing. Heels are supposed to lose the non-title matches and win when it counts, preferably by nefarious means. Plus, Dolph really needed that win after being cheated out of the belt by Miz at Battleground. It was solid booking and a good way to set up more matches between the two, building to a title match at Summerslam that actually has some meaning!
The match was amazing as well, easily Miz’ best match in years . There was drama, action, lots of near falls and just all round great grappling, bravo gentlemen, bravo!
Paige Turned!
In a bit of a ‘why didn’t they do this on Sunday’ news, Paige turned on AJ going full heel and literally destroying her. I haven’t seen a Diva get that beaten up and tossed around in a long time! The tag match before was just a waste of time leading up to this and that was all it needed to be.
The attack was brutal and effective, and Paige excels as a heel so it will be great to see these two go up against each other again, only now with more clearly defined roles. And most importantly, we never have to heard the word “frenemies” again!
Triple H: Husband Of The Year!
Triple H did run to his wifes side when they got to the backstage area, but I can’t be the only one asking why he didn’t run out during the overly long 10 minute window where they were at ringside arguing? And then he was smiling at the whole situation while it occured? And then he didn’t even go to the police station to be with his wife? This guy, he’s gonna win some major douchebag awards for this!
Stephanie though, she is really her fathers daughter. She commits so fully to being humiliated sometimes, it is genuinely impressive.
A Fresh Match? WHAAAAA?
This was great and surprising. In all their years on the independent circuit, Cesaro and Dean Ambrose never seem to have crossed paths. It was inevitable that they would at some point, and tonight was the night. Now, we only got a small taste of what these guys are capable of, but boy was it good!
I really hope that we see more of these two in the same ring very soon!
Heyman GOD!
Lets get the obvious out of the way first. Yes, Paul Heyman may have cut the single best promo I have ever heard on Raw this week. It was full of passion, anger, and genuine love for what he was doing and made everyone stand up and applaud including me!
The match between Lesnar and Cena is predictable and we all knew about it. It won’t win any match of the year awards, but with Heyman involved, the build will be enough to overlook all the predictability and mediocrity.
Short and sweet this week kids, lots going on.
Peace!
