The final WWE RAW before Fastlane aired last night, Monday February 15th 2016. Let us take a look back at the preview and what led up to the upcoming encounters. Fastlane is Sunday January 21st 2016. The big main event that evening is the triple threat match pitting Lesnar versus Reigns and Ambrose. The winner faces WWE champion Triple H at Wrestlemania.
The Fatal five-way match opened up TV, and had the Intercontinental title on the line. Ambrose was looking for a fight, and some payback, as he called out Lesnar. Instead, he got Stephanie McMahon who booked him in the opening card bout, and subsequently lost his title. Kevin Owens won the belt back, versus the other competitors. The other wrestlers in the contest were Stardust, Tyler Breeze and Dolph Ziggler outside of Owens and Ambrose.
Brie Bella and Charlotte segment started, when Brie addressed the audience about life with her husband, Bryan- and life for him outside of WWE now that he is retired. Now, rumors and reports are running rampant that Brie herself is retiring and her last match (spurned by the segment on RAW) is Brie versus Charlotte at Fastlane.
In other action, AJ Styles defeated the Miz, and challenged Chris Jericho for their third bout. The third bout is the rubber match between the two, and will also occur at Fastlane. Jericho accepted Styles’ challenge as well. The main event had a no-contest pitting Braun Strowman wrestled the Big Show. Summer Rae defeated Paige in Divas action.
Big E of the New Day wrestled Mark Henry and evolved from the tag team bout main event from last week. Ironically of which, the Dudley’s also promo-ed the Uso’s, and justified their resurgence to their claim of being the baddest tag team and wanting another tag title run. If successful, the Dudley’s will be a 10-time WWE tag title holders. Heath Slater defeated Zach Ryder in singles competition, and during his time away from Hype Bros with Mojo Rawley.
League of Nations also defeated the tandem of Sin Cara and Kalisto, and Neville in their tag team match. Ironically enough, the US title holder loses in a tag team bout? So much for momentum and a solo status push?
In other developments, it is hinted and reported that Cena will be back in time for Wrestlemania. Additionally, Wade Barrett had been quoted or suggested to not re-new his contract when it is set to expire. So, how the League will move on, and without Barrett (if indeed true) remains to be seen.
In lay terms, the main event and matches didn’t move many stories amongst the undercard. Many matches were booked “safe” or inconclusively to not hurt or hinder budding/new developments, or things that will happen after Fastlane. Fastlane looks like a stacked card and is shaping up to be a decent PPV. See you on February 21st!
