Here are the main talking points from this week’s Raw which saw the return of two WWE legends.
HBK and The Undertaker Rise to Raw
Shawn Michaels returned to WWE television to talk about the match between Triple H and The Undertaker at Super Showdown in October. He was explaining how dangerous Triple H is right now when The Phenom’s gong hit and The Deadman came down to confront The Show stopper. This segment was definitely the best one of the night with the pair teasing a future rematch down the line. WWE is doing a fantastic job in getting fans excited for this bout in Melbourne, Australia.
The Shield Let Their Guard Down
It certainly wasn’t the best of nights for The Shield as it started with the faction getting arrested and being taken away in a police van, to Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns being beaten down to the ground by the heel side of the Raw roster, with Braun Strowman, Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre being the ringleaders. The Shield will take on Strowman, Ziggler and McIntyre in a six-man tag match at Super Showdown, and I feel that WWE is really heating up this rivalry for this match, maybe at the expense of the Intercontinental championship and even the Universal championship.
New Tag Team Champions Crowned
The B team were scheduled to defend their Raw tag team titles against The Revival, but before the match, Ziggler and McIntyre assaulted The Revival and inserted themselves into the tag title match with The B team. After a one-sided scrap, Ziggler and McIntyre took the W and the tag titles for the first time as a team. It’s definitely fair to say that Ziggler’s career has seen a revival after several years of floundering in the mid-card, and this will do the world of good for the career of McIntyre.
Owens Returns to Work
Only after quitting the company seven days before, Kevin Owens returned to Raw and attacked Bobby Lashley from behind, hitting a nasty powerbomb on a ring apron in the process. I must say that this is really an underwhelming return for Owens who last week started what could’ve been the most fascinating storyline on Raw, but the anticipation has been crushed in one week.
The Bellas Return to the Ring
Nikki and Brie Bella returned to in-ring competition to defeat Sarah Logan and Liv Morgon from The Riott squad after a Rack attack 2.0 from Nikki to pick up the win. It’s clear that The Bellas had some ring rust, especially as Brie attempted a suicide dive which saw her land on her face. This will be good practice however for when they face all three members of The Riott Squad at Super Showdown alongside Raw women’s champion Ronda Rousey.
