The Real Problem with the WWE

There’s something that’s been bugging me for a while now in the world of professional wrestling and I feel like now that I have the proper forum I need to get it off my chest.

It’s probably not what you’re thinking. It’s not the misuse of talent by Vince McMahon. It’s not that TNA has managed to make its weekly programming nearly unwatchable despite having one of the most talented rosters in the industry. It’s not that Ring of Honor, despite having the financial resources to improve its product, still has a ring that sounds like it was constructed in a high school wood-shop class.

So what’s got me so worked up…? The WWE Universe. That’s right the WWE fans.

Now, I’m not referring to all or even most of the fans. I’m talking about that STUPID small percentage of the fans that are NEVER satisfied regardless of the circumstances. They’re never happy and in turn they try to ruin the experience for everyone around them.

You know who I’m talking about. The ones that read spoilers, then think they’re showing how cool they are when they share the results with everyone before things have had a chance to play out. The ones that claim the WWE is too predictable and act like they can’t be surprised. They’re the same ones that claim a swerve is “stupid” just because they didn’t see it coming. They start the “BORING” chants as soon as anyone gets on the mic to cut a promo and advance a storyline.

All that aside, the most obnoxious, and perhaps most laughable, trait that these people share is that they actually think they’re smarter than Vince McMahon. They genuinely believe, for instance, that they have caused Vince to call audibles and change storylines based on their reactions. What they fail to realize is that they themselves are the BIGGEST marks on the face of the planet.

McMahon understands basic human psychology. In fact, he’s used that understanding to create a billion dollar enterprise, in case you haven’t heard. He’s a calculating, patient, marketing genius. In an instant gratification society, like we have today, people forget that “the best things come to those who wait”. McMahon never loses sight of that.

If these fans had it their way Daniel Bryan, for example, would have gone straight to the top almost immediately after his main roster debut. Had that happened, Wrestlemania 30 would have felt like an episode of Smackdown, dull, pointless, and irrelevant.

If they had it their way, Roman Reigns would have never won at Royal Rumble. If that hadn’t happened we wouldn’t have gotten the incredible finish at Wrestlemania 31.
I could go on and on all day with more and more examples, but my message is this- If you’re truly a fan, if you TRULY love professional wrestling, then know your role and shut your mouth.

No one is impressed.

While you sit in the crowd or at home in front of your television questioning Vince McMahon’s every decision, and posting on all your little message boards that he’s “out of touch” and “it’s time for him to move on”, Vince is counting his money. And trust me folks, that’s a LOT of money.

I’ll leave off with this- If you read this and get defensive, then it’s you that I’m writing to.
You need to know that you’ve been getting worked on a regular basis……. and… you’re an idiot.
